SO you paid $2k for a $1300 stove? Could have had a Drolet Legend III for less, which is a nicer looking stove with better heat shielding and better build quality (weighs about 100lb more), also, made in Canaderp rather than China, and has slightly steadier longer burn cycles, lower emissions, and same thermal efficiency. Hopefully nobody goes and spends $2K on a chinese non-cat lightweight steel stove after watching this video.

Ive ran tf out of stihls and it amazes me how ppl trash the TOOL-LESS caps. Theyve worked for me always EXCEPT when a greenhorn false locks the cap and doesmt pull it FIRST before you fold the black tab down. I know aftermarkets leak or dont fit well so you gotta get that issue solved first I know for a fact its nice as hell to NOT need a wrench to check yer fuel 1,000 feet away from the gas oil and tool you left. Hint hint a guy that carries his own tool is worth paying for. Even better you only need it for the bar/chain People used to crank the old tool caps down and that makes me mad when i need a tool to check my fuel or oil level 1,000 feet away from the tool you left at the gas and oil station. Ill take Stihl fast caps ALLL DAY
@Man-Time6 күн бұрын
I like the idea of the tool less caps. Husqvarna’s new design is much better with the screw design and flip top to assist. Stihl’s design is just poor execution of a good idea. Even the most seasoned users still manage to fumble and misinstall the caps from time to time.
@davesteier-xf5lh6 күн бұрын
Thats because most people just twist it and fold the black tab down To use stihl fast caps; you must PULL FIRST to make sure its locked IN-to the saw. we wont talk about lining up the match marks, But, either PULL the black tab FIRST or, get a leg full of oil like i have several times dc i am a climber and theyd always last until i tied my saw on my belt Then im like whats that funny feeling?? Yeah, time to lower the saw AGAIN because its out of oil Pull the black tab BEFORE you fold it down They are 1/4 turn caps and just false locked on-to the saw case usually the oil holds suction …till i get it on my belt :P I do it every time easy peasy no problems and i catch it before it has a chance. since then ive been zero failure rate

In southern Michigan red oak will not dry if left on the ground. I always use pallets or sacrifice firewood to raise the stack off the ground. Always tarp the top with a dark tarp black preferably. Wood will dry in humid conditions if you can keep moisture off of it. Use a tarp long and wide enough to drape over the edges of a stack. If you can get air flow underneath the stack you can use a full drape configuration otherwise never try to go beyond 1/2 of the height of the stack but always use a dark tarp to cove with. Inside of a wood shed the wood still needs to be off the ground so every year all the fallen bark etc has to be removed to permit air flow. Rain in summer can blow into a stack. Snow will blow into a stack at that point you need a full drape to prevent snow blowing into a stack and warming and then refreezing otherwise you will just be putting ice into your fire box (outdoor boiler not indoor wood stove). Effort always has to be made to keep the wood from getting re-moisturized. Black walnut is notorious for water retention and is harder to dry than red oak while only having about 75% of the btu content when both are properly dried.

This is a loaded question but the short answer is one season will do it pending: It was cut before the sap ran into it in the spring It was stored in a sunny spot to dry over the summer and off the ground ( I use plastic pallets) The split pieces are not too large It was tarped only on top come fall or brought into a wood shed

Working on bringing a NH 644 bailer back to life. The autowrap arm mechanisms appear to have gotten tweaked and the Cam is not engaged in the large rotation gear. I don't have any background of what it is supposed to be doing when it is working or what is missing, etc. This was a backup bailer for a friend who never needed to use it and it sat for a long time. Video of the working autowrap/pulley/cam would really help me figure out what isn't working. I do robotics for farming as the day job and trying really hard not to put in a gear motor with a controller to move arms back and forth. Are you available for consulting and a remote video call to help troubleshoot? You having a working bailer that is very close to what I am trying to get working is the fastest path for me to bail some hay!!!!

Would want to do a video call from my end to have you look at my current setup and troubleshoot. Slightly older version but everything looked very similar. The cam doesn't turn and going to assume the gear on the cam is stripped. $800 for a new CAM. Thus very tempted to not try and fix a very complicated mechanical autowrap system 30+ years old that moves two arms back and forth. Super easy to build that mechanism with a motor and a controller. Want to .make sure I exhaust all options before going that route that what I have will work just not setup properly .

my go to saw for weight/power is the stihl 440. its a bit lighter then the 460 and they are just super reliable. have literally ran 3-5 tanks of gas through mine 5 days a week for the past 4 years and have only had to do regular upkeep like sprockets a clutch and spark plugs. the key to a saws lifespan is a sharp chain though. a dull chain will burn up a saw in a hurry.

So if it doesn’t 4 stroke at max rpm it’s okay to run and leave like that? It seems like using a lower rpm and having 4 stroking sound is going to cause extra carbon build up.
@Man-TimeАй бұрын
Yeah the stihl saws especially benefit from tuning the max/recommended rpm’s. And I can’t hear the 4 stroke with them when they are 500 below max. You leave power on the table for sure. You’ve got to get the saw hot though. Otherwise it will lean out further and could cause damage
@mnelson4930Ай бұрын
If you are not 4-stroking on the high end, you could be lean. Ideally, it should be just rich enough that it 4-stokes when free revenge, but cleans up in the cut. Carbon buildup will be a non-issue tuned like this.

i have the same brand in the 30 ton model .. i have had it for 7 years and use it for my personal and small firewood business .. its a good machine .. just watch out for the filter to vibrate loose and leak fluid and the water in the fluid from the hole in the cap can cause ice to damage the pump.. i found that out and had to replace the pump. mine also has the kohler motor on it from factory as that was standard back many years ago.

I have the orange holtzforma g372xp from Amazon. Mine had been run at the factory. You could see oil residue in the tank and it had a slight gas smell. It was otherwise new. I set it up with a 20" bar and chain, fueled it and filled the oil, choked it, gave it a few rips, it popped, turned of the choke, one pull and it fired right up. Whoever tuned the carb at the factory got it just about perfect. I took down a small tree with it and bucked it up into firewood right away. Ran perfect. Had to tighten the chain after a few cuts, nbd, just like any new chain and bar. Lots of hate on these, I love mine its been flawless. I was pretty much a Stihl guy so most of my experience is from that world. This is my first "husky" type saw and I really like it. I run the Stihl synthetic oil at 50:1 with 93 octane premium just like all of my Stihl stuff uses, so I don't need separate fuel. This saw rips! It's got enough power for me so I don't plan on modding it. It's used for firewood and managing trees around my house.
