Separate cards for each rider. Child passes are available for children under 12 and free if they're under 6.

Great video! Thanks for all the tips! Quick question though, if I have the Suica IC and land in Narita, do I need to buy any tickets to get to Tokyo, or just going through gates and using Suica will be enough as the charges would be take off the card?

If you dont know japanese, i reccomend having a specialised japanese translation app on your phone (ex: mazii instead of gg translate). That would help a lot!

Thanks so much for all the details and going straight to the point. Valuable information. Would it be easier and cheaper to take a coach from airport to downtown Tokyo? It'll probably take slightly longer but at least you don't have to change trains, yes??
@DiscoveringJapan1
@DiscoveringJapan1 Ай бұрын
It depends on which airport your arriving at and where in Tokyo you're trying to go. Narita has straight-shot express trains going directly into Tokyo. Haneda is significantly closer to Tokyo and has minimal train changes. Bus is also an easy, no-stress option. Either is good, but if you're concerned about getting confused by the train lines on your first day, a coach bus may be a better option for you.

Tip for getting cash at an ATM: Get a debit card with reimbursable atm fees worldwide such as Charles Schwab. No need for currency exchange rate fees either since you can basically withdraw for free at an atm.

We enjoyed the tours of the houses. I am half Japanese and my wife is Japanese and I am also retired military and we were stationed close to Ome so we know the area well. We are thinking about moving back to Japan and Ome is one of the areas we are considering since the houses are reasonably priced and still close to everything even though it's a little inaka. Having the train take you straight into Shinjuku is also a plus.

How are you being charged on IC cards when moving within a city? IC card is charged based on which station you started and which station was your final one, no matter how many changes you made and how long it took for you? Is it better then to buy unlimited ride day tickets, like Tokyo Metro 24-hour Ticket ?
@rustix3
@rustix3 Ай бұрын
3:39 "Simply put your current train station then the station you want". I always surprised how people call such hard to use apps a "simple". I don't know the city, there are a ton of metro lines, so Japanese even put the numbers because foreigners want even memorize the station names. And just "simply" know the closest station of the city with one of the complex metro systems, and on top of that know the station you need to go? Really? I thought it's an app's responsibility to do that. I hate such apps that feels more as a terminal shell for programmers. They should be visual, they should show the map, they should show find the nearest stations by themselves and how them on a map. Just like google maps.

@cedricbeaufume8182 yes, it's a different culture. They use their time on the train to relax, so no noise either music or loud talking. Probably best to text someone back if they ring you.
