I went to see Chris at the Royal Court Theatre in Liverpool when this came out. I'd never heard of him before but as a guitar player I actually went to see Jimmy Wilsley play because of his part on this track..he was amazing, I was in my early 20s at the time, and to me the star of the show.

The way you analyzed the chords and the progression is most helpfull. I am not that familiar with notes so i'm counting on my hearing and i think you have made it easier for people like me. Thank you.

Another great tutorial of James Wilsey's work, more would great and Thank you. Because I’m a big fan Chris Isaak I’ve also gotten into Herschel Yatovitz's pretty unique style and would ask if you could do a tutorial on Pretty Girls Don’t Cry or South of the Border. Again Thx ATB.

Suggestion: before teaching the song, you start the video by playing the song all the way through. You’re assuming the audience already knows what the guitar parts sound like. That’s almost never the case with me. Its like telling me a recipe before I know what we’re cooking. Thanks
@seanhayes299813 сағат бұрын
While I agree with you, that’s a pretty sure fire way to get the video demonetised. Often he and other tutors will do a separate video with a play through, not sure why he didn’t here. Perhaps he will.

I had the honor of meeting Roger McGuinn a few years ago at The Ryman. A friend of mine I grew up with played in Marty Stuart’s Fabulous Superlatives. Marty was playing a charity event and Roger was a guest musician. I had goose bumps during the sound check as Roger hit the opening chords of Turn, Turn, Turn. I looked over at Roger’s wife and she said “It happens to me every time”. Really nice couple.

The King of Slow. Best James Wilsey song (to my mind) is Insomnia, an instrumental that is inspired by the classic Sleepwalk, as the title suggests.

Great Choice of song. I had that record right when it came out, & Jimmy Wilsey's playing & sound was what made that whole thing tick. "Blue Hotel", from that same record, was used in a network (NBC?) Hollywood Noir detective show, which is where I first heard of those guys. Sad he didn't make it. I was lucky to virtually cross paths with him when he was often on TDPRI years ago.

yes make more James Wilsey lessons. I like how he uses interval inversions played against with open strings he specializes in that.

My man! Absolutely love this 🙌 James Wilsey doesn't get near the respect he deserves. IMO Chris Isaak's music was never quite as darkly sexy after Wilsey exited the band and sadly passed. Loved his playing on 'Can't Do a Thing' as well, plus his barely acknowledged solo album El Dorado - a real surf / spaghetti noir banger. Really appreciate these tutorials 👍

I get a chuckle seeing Jimmy in that shark suit; remembering back when he was in The Avengers. I can't recall if it was him or the drummer Danny who performed wearing a t-shirt, safety pinned together from two different color t-shirts right down the middle. Brilliant.

@12footchain - Great job as usual - a slight comment if I may. To my ear (via the software program "transcribe" with slow down feature) on the E part of the turn around, on the D string, I hear him play 5th fret (G) to 2nd fret (E) rather than him going to open D string.
