I have this test tomorrow at 8:30 AM. I've been fearful all week. When I get dizzy which is sometimes 2 or 3 times a week, I may vomit and have to move my bowels at the same time. I am petrified as I have incontinence. I'm having a comprehensive hearing test tomorrow also. I hope they do that first. I also hope the box I have to sit in is not claustrophobic. All these tests for hearing loss they can't really fix and dizziness they can't cure.

@A google user I got to the ENT office and I was not on their schedule. I had proof I made the appointment too. So far I haven't scheduled it at another place because I have been feeling much better since I eliminated eating almonds covered in dark chocolate and cocoa powder. I've also stopped using the salt shaker. Just some slight dizziness that passes quickly especially after I move my bowels. I don't know why, but it seems to be related to my problem. Thank you for asking.

I'm having this done in 3 weeks. How was it?
@BRathjens51 Жыл бұрын
@@Jeff-S I never had it done. I and my husband showed up at the place I was told to go. The office was closed. We waited and a receptionist finally arrived. She let us in and I wasn't on the schedule and that doctor was not due in that day. I didn't reschedule. I changed the things I was eating and eliminated dark chocolate covered almonds covered in cocoa powder. Very addictive. Since then my "Meniere's" and vertigo and vomiting have stopped. I assume I was misdiagnosed.

I was looking for a resource to understand what eye saccades were, and this was perfect!! Thank you so much!
@rahuld23232 жыл бұрын
Can u explain to me ? 😭
@autotune18352 жыл бұрын
@@rahuld2323 Sure! 😁👍 From my sources, saccades are rapid eye movements from one place to another, used when we read or look for something (Sangha). Proper saccades are a part of proper eye health - saccades are not a medical disorder, but the name of eye movements we perform, often unconsciously. An example is looking left-to-right as you read, and there are many other types of saccades as well (Foulsham). But in some cases, like a stroke or a problem with the brain, these movements become disrupted, which reduces the person’s ability to take in visual information. For example, if a person has trouble moving their eyes left to right (the saccadic movement) while reading, it makes it harder to read and absorb the information (Sangha). If saccadic movements are unable to be performed effectively, visual abilities can be reduced. But visual ability can be restored! Saccadic therapy can re-train better movements in the eyes, and thus improve visual abilities that need these movements (nvcadmin). This is like a rookie athlete with little control over their body who trains and becomes a pro athlete who controls their own body effectively. As their movements become more precise, they may gain agility and avoid excessive, unnecessary movements. It’s the same with training saccadic movements! After training saccadic movements, their eyes move more effectively than before therapy, which, like an athlete, results in better performance! I hope it helps! 😁👍 Sources: Sangha, www.familyeyecarecentre.com/articles/how-vision-therapy-can-improve-saccadic-eye-movements-and-help-reading-problems/ nvcadmin, ttps://novavision.com/why-you-should-consider-offering-saccadic-therapy-to-your-clients/ Foulsham, www.nature.com/articles/eye2014275

I wanted to cite my sources just to be safe - I'm not a professional, but I did some reading on saccades to learn about them. 🙂👍

I don't know why but caloric test is the only one what I'm affraid of. Maybe there is nothing terrible in this but I'm affraid after irrigation I will feel not only dizziness but - worse - feeling sick and even vomiting (I have Hydrocephalus and nystagmus). One time I've heard that there are supposedly exist the centers (I live in Poland - this movie is only an example for me) where there is possible to proceed this test with an air instead of water. Maybe my hopes are unfounded but I hope that with an air unpleasant sensations would be milder. I've heard also that before this test patient should be on empty stomach - just for that to avoid unpleasant sensations or even vomiting. Is it true? Of course it's only my own - layman's opinion/supposals. Useful video, thank you!

Why would you restrict this to upper limb cerebellar function? (the uncomfortable conclusion is that it suited the manner in which the video was made). Many would disagree with the method of moving the examiner's finger when performing the finger to nose test. Rapid tapping is a useful test, but it would be important to emphasize that the examiner should test for variation in the sound. You appear to have completely ignored rapid alternating movements! Poor Gordon Holmes...

Your comment is entirely correct BUT the purpose of these videos is to demonstrate a screening type quick examination that a non specialist could do when assessing a patient with vertigo. This video was one of several within a first line battery of balance assessments aimed at any healthcare professional to determine whether or not a balance disorder MIGHT be present - it was not meant to be a specialist examination.

@doris-evabamiou98804 жыл бұрын
The fast phase of the nystagmus is a saccade. Nystagmus refers to both phases: the visually induced slow phase and the fast saccadic phase.
