Other than black out lights, color, data plates, and probably emissions delete... any other notable differences?

Correct no emissions. It has a rocket launcher that runs off the auxiliary hydraulics but no one can figure out which way the hoses go so we just pretend it’s not there.

The Cat logo is unchanged since 1989, the "trade dress" has been changed multiple times since then, 89 to 91 they were a little lost but in 91 they landed on what is known as the "Beltline" trade dress, identified by the thin red line along the bottom of the decal, 2006 saw the next iteration known as the "Power Edge" trade dress signified by a thick red section on a 45 degree angle on the decal and and then in 2019 we got the next change of the trade dress to the current "Modern Hex" version. What is further confusing is the suffix change and the association of the modern hex trade dress with "next gen" models and upgrades. Lets get this straight, the MH trade dress does not signify a "next gen" model, nor in some cases does the dropping of the letter suffix mean it is a new model!!. Cat has caused a lot of confusion in this space with there directives and changes and you really need to dig into it to understand it.

These models have a great body design. But the cabs are no good. The seat mounted controls rattle a lot. The window glass traps dirt between the panels and scratches the glass really bad over time. The side glass is really too tall in my opinion. The cab doors are really thin and don't seal well if washing with a water truck cleaning it. Body is good but the cab is cheapish.

Agreed cat definitely got cheap on the next gen dozer cabs.

By the way, this is not the Next Gen dozer. We call it the D8 nomenclature in CAT. Basically, its an improved D8T without the T in the name. Next Gens will be out soon!

Do you prefer the v pattern and foot control vs pilot stick drive control? I’ve often wondered why not go to the newer pilot if it’s available
@Ironmerchant
@Ironmerchant 25 күн бұрын
Yeah the newer pilot is probably the ticket. When I was in one that wasn’t available so the V pattern is just what I’m use to. I’d probably get pilot if I was ever to buy one.

Great video! I enjoyed the side by side of the 12H as it shows how close these are . The main reason CAT went to the M series was to provide the total electronic control for more precise and automatic grade control functions. The 140 and the old 12H must have addition valves added to operate grade functions and then it can only work on the lift and lower of the left and right lift cylinders. The biggest complaint about the M series, was the fear of using the stick steering control when traveling at full speed. It can be rough to get accustomed to control. The M series is best for larger companies need grade control all the time and the H or new 140 best for smaller companies that never use automatic grade control. Also, the productions has been moved for some of these to offer more cost savings. This 2022 model (N94 prefix) was built at Cat Brasil Ltda.- Piracicaba. I think it would be great if you can add the source of the factory posted on the serial number tag when possible. Looking forward to your next video!

I work in a landfill, usually run a D6T XL but it was out getting a power train rebuild so we had a D7E until it was done, as someone who has alot of time behind a dozer, I will say this dozer it's just a pushing S.O.B I still like my 6T more but it will move material without an issue, I love the D7E though it's just a nice looking dozer

I've operated 14's and 24's and they'll go like Jeeps! The 24 had a 12-V in the front and a 6-71 in the rear with a straight pipe. The 14's had 4-71's in both ends. I liked a rough short haul. They'll beat you to death on a long one and YES, the'll run again. Thanks! And I still can't hear!

Thats great! These were British built that why they had the 8-71 front and rear. As of today they are still sitting in the same spot. I talk to the owner regularly and he swears he’s going to get them running again so finger crossed. Thanks for watching.

A lot of it is personal opinion of course but to me some of the best excavators every made were the Deere/hitachi LC and CLC excavators. Early-mid 2000’s. I had a lot of experience working on them and t hey were good for mechanics and operators.

next gen D5 is still powershift. D4 is the old D6K and is the largest cat dozer with hystat.
@Ironmerchant
@Ironmerchant Ай бұрын
They don’t call it power shift anymore it’s called fully automatic or fully variable transmission it acts like a hydrostatic. I could see why some people like it but the old school power shift is still my favorite I think.
@HaydenIngram
@HaydenIngram Ай бұрын
@@Ironmerchant they may not but I’ve had a few out and look identical to a late d6N transmission. We’ve had to rebuild quite a few that burn the forward or reverse clutches out fairly early before 2000 hrs. It’s warranty but early nonetheless.
@Ironmerchant
@Ironmerchant Ай бұрын
That’s super interesting. I know they were trying to make it feel like a hydrostatic/electric drive style where it stops when you push the decelerator and is continuously variable thru the transmission gears. “Hydrostatic style” Is that what is burning up clutches? Making them slip to make it seems like it’s continuous instead of shifting hard?
@HaydenIngram
@HaydenIngram Ай бұрын
@@Ironmerchant bad operators we’ve seen where they will coast down a hill in neutral and pop it in gear before slowing down and it’ll just wipe all the clutches in the directional gear they were in, seen it happen on all the power shifts no matter the size. Operator error mainly don’t think it’s a manufacture defect.
@Ironmerchant
