Be careful of the music you show on your podcast. KZbin is cutting songs messing them up like giving you the Mona Lisa with her eyes cut out. You need to look for the original recording or original video. Make sure it is the original Peter Frampton comes alive is the original albummore iron maiden live? You’ll love it. There are so many bands Judas Priest. They’ll love it two more Pink Floyd and you will be surprised don’t get too extracted by lyrics. Enjoy the music there’s so many more. I just can’t think of them, but you’ll get it late.

Did you ever hear the limited edition of Strange Times? The Full Arrangement of Tears is a solid track. I think it was recorded about the same time as Swamp Thing, and hits harder than the acoustic.

This is a prime example of an album that sounds best on first listen...but my appreciation wanes upon repeat. It's a fine album and has a lot of energy and great hooks which is a plus, but the song-writing is too elementary and formulaic for my liking to really hoist it up as some sort of masterpiece. People place this above 'OK Computer' for best 90s album and that's like comparing a cool looking finger painting to Rembrandt or something. In terms of grunge, I'd rate them last of the Big Four. AIC is probably my favorite and been randomly listening to Soundgarden lately ('Superunknown' is a great song). They definitely show a greater willingness to experiment (unorthodox tunings, time signatures), are overall more creative than this band...and just has cooler vibes.
@INTJerkКүн бұрын
It actually reminds me somewhat of Led Zeppelin I and II (3 1/2 out of 5 albums for me). I'll dust those off and while it's playing, I'm thinking "this is actually sounding damn good, I think I underrated it!", but then the second or third time through, the luster wears off. There isn't enough value layered underneath the surface that can be appreciated and picked up upon repeat listens. It's sort of just "what you see is what you get" so lacks the staying power like of my favorite albums. That's usually how I rate: based on a personal tendency to continue playing the album.
@INTJerkКүн бұрын
So for me, it's interesting: albums that I rate 3 or 3 1/2 are ones that I like a lot at first and the ones I eventually end up rating 5 stars go over my head at first. It's amazing though having those moments that are like epiphanies, when it all of a sudden clicks. Not sure other people have those experiences...

Your wrong about so many things. When scott recorded this album he used his band. Its anything but one note. Its so consequent as a whole. I understand its not for everyone. But its so amazing

I grew up with this stuff and though 'pop music' and 'dance music' were not for want of a better term 'cool' in the early 70s prog rock fraternity I always loved the stuff that could almost be sort of pop hits (at least in an alternative universe - but which sort of came about in the early 80s and had been in the mid / late 60s). Having listened further (on the vimeo link) this is now an ongoing reaction to your reaction to your reaction - so a bit random here: you mentioned I think some of this sounded pre-shoegaze etc. You also said back in the day you had to be stoned to listen to this - not true! (well not for me anyway - I was a kid maybe 13 or 14) you had to have retained childhood awe and wonder and not just accept what is presented to you as what is acceptable as a pop or rock or whatever commodity. All the sounds were created from scratch - no presets (or samples obviously). This isn't so new or out there if you've heard early Zappa stuff and other contemporary bands such as Henry Cow who were also exploring similar territory. ........ to finish this sounds both as fresh and weird as when I heard it on release however, back then I couldn't listen to it more than a few times before it became shall we say less interesting so got rid of it but it is pleasing to hear again so does that make it timeless? This was an era when almost anything went (for good or bad) and I miss that. There was a period post punk (the proper 'postpunk') in the late 70s / early 80s when the people who had been brought up on this stuff and had formed bands in the DIY /Punk era started drawing on these influences. This didn't last long as the record companies wanted their hit records. Mostly I prefer music that I can listen to frequently over time.

I think the audio is the studio version of the track. It's ovelaid (badly) onto the upscaled live footage. A fairly atypical Cardiacs tune (although there isn't really a typical one!).

In Utero takes a while to grow on you - Milk It, Pennyroyal Tea, Radio Friendly Unit Shifter and Tourettes are growers and once they get their hooks in they become some of the best Nirvana songs. Its wild because they purposely left off some of the more accessible tracks from the session like Sappy, I Hate Myself and I Want to Die, and Marigold and instead chose to include more difficult, noisier songs. It pays off over time. In Utero is still intriguing to me after listening to it for 30+ years, and there are very few albums I could say that about.

You should check original steve albini version of heart-shaped box. It’s on the 2013 deluxe edition of In Utero by Albini, it’s an incredible album mixing for me. Steve said that the 2013 mix sounds like you’re hearing the band right in the studio.

It was their label idea to do the remixes, because they found Albini's work too raw and the band caved. They've later release another edition without the remixes. Alex, you should check out the band Shellac, which is Steve's main band. They're pretty good.

I love In Utero and I want to say it's better than Nevermind but when listening back to back I almost always give the edge to Nevermind. That said I think In Utero gets better with every listen while Nevermind is epic on your first listen and leaves itself less room to grow on you.

It's been a long while since I read up on my Nirvana lore, but I'm pretty sure Kurt wrote about 50% of the Nevermind and In Utero songs over summer 1990. Pretty prolific. Also, You might like the In Utero b-side "Marigold" in paricular, it was one of Dave Grohl's songs they worked on. A very cool track.

The mixing is a weird history. The band was pleased with the album but the label was terrified of it, fearing it would turn off all the fans who found the band through Nevermind. The band refused to re-record the album but decided to have Litt re-mix the planned single tracks (Heart-Shaped Box, All Apologies, and Pennyroyal Tea). - The original German LP pressing features all Albini mixes. - The US pressings feature the Litt mixes of Heart-Shaped Box and All Apologies. - The US Walmart version features the above, plus the Litt mix of Pennyroyal Tea. - The 2013 Anniversary edition received a new supplemental mix of the album by Albini The Pennyroyal Tea single was due to be released in April '94, the month Kurt died. The single would feature the B-side "I Hate Myself and Want to Die", so the release was scrapped. However not all copies were destroyed leading to the few surviving CDs to command very high prices on the collectors market.

KoD were brilliant. Patrick Fitzgerald on vocals and bass, the brilliant Julian Swales on guitar and Dan Goodwin on thunderous drums. Their first three albums were produced by the legendary producer High Jones. That trilogy is perfection and has three of the best album titles ever. Influenced by the Chameleons and the Cocteau Twins, their ethereal rock (NOT shoegazing) was just gorgeous. After those 3 albums they switched to co-producing with Pete Bartlett (The Cure’s recent producer) and sounded a bit harsher. Their fifth and final album, self-produced, was a swan song going back to their earlier sound.

PSB carved out a distinct sound of human synth pop , most importantly- are the stories told in the lyrics. That is the human aspect. NT sings about real stuff we all go through or think. His observational approach is timeless. Chris' programming and dancefloor vibes along with the lyrics are timeless.

I wonder have you ever listened to any of the albums by the Cure that you haven't reacted to on the channel? (Besides the Top and Bloodflowers of course). While not as good albums as a whole I still think that some songs on these later albums are really good. I know you haven't been all that fond of the songs that the Cure use huge, distorted guitars at the forefront, but I would recommend Before Three or Going Nowhere (This song is not available for streaming in the U.S annoyingly) from their self-titled. That album is very heavy and uses those guitars extensively, but I actually really like it. The way the album is mixed is admittingly not the best, but I really like how raw his voice sounds on this album. Before Three is very heavy but it reminds me a little bit of Siamese Dream by Smashing Pumpkins the way the guitars wrap around me and create a really nice atmosphere. The subject material of this song is really sad and it's one of my favorites. Going Nowhere is probably one of their shortest songs and feels very removed from the rest of the album (there is some really nice piano playing and organ-y sounding synths), Robert says very little and sounds like he is going to burst into tears, and I find it to be one of their most emotional songs. You don't have to listen to them by any means I just would recommend them if you wanted to listen to them on your own time. (I also think this album is underrated).

This album gets a lot of hate, but overall its actually quite good. I think there are two issues. First, the album opens with an absolutely perfect modern rock/pop track (Regret)...and then there is the rest of the album, which pales in comparison. Second, not enough of Hooky's epic bass lines.
