Last year, I decided to go back to c# but this time I specialize in ASP MVC, Jquery, Javascript, and JSON and since then I have been working on different projects. Now I plan to move to Canada with my family but don't know if those tools (languages) I know are enough for me to get a job over there. Because I'm looking at 4 months' times Thanks

Quick question regarding the Canadian education: I am a telecommunication engineer in my home country but after graduating I couldn't find a job for so I moved to software engineering due to the opportunities in that sector. I didn't follow any particular program from a university or some professional school. If your goal is to get a software developer role specifically, you will need to learn software development skills. You can choose to learn on your own via online courses or register for a university program or join a bootcamp. I would recommend either a University program or a Canadian bootcamp because they would issue a Canadian certification and most likely help with internship placement, which is good for Canadian experience. On the other hand, if you already have a computer science or technology-related education, then, this might not be needed. Either way, you will also need to learn how to pass technical/coding interviews as well as non-technical) behavioural interviews. @pharma-code Жыл бұрын
Hello Afolayan, Thanks for watching. Your frontend developer experience will be very valuable. However, the truth about job applications is that citizens, permanent residents, and work permit holders will always be considered first before visitors and non-residents. Not all companies are authorized to hire non-residents and not all are encouraged to go through the requirements and fees to hire visitors & non-residents. So, the competition would be very high and it will be very difficult to find a job as a developer while being a visitor. I would suggest that you explore organizations like VanHack.com who already have companies with sponsorship authorizations willing and ready to hire and sponsor developers from outside Canada.

Thank you for watching and subscribing. Yes, definitely, your development experience counts here in Canada. Do you have a computer science or related engineering degree/education? If yes, that's even more awesome. Your education and your 9 years of development experience (with a well-written Canadian resume) are more than enough to get you to interviews. However, with enough persistence and some additional tips, anyone would eventually get in just like I did and many others have done as well. @@kenyup7936 Studying in Canada would definitely provide you with a Canadian degree as well as Canadian experience (via internships while studying). Hey that's a good point. I'm a software engineer, any advice between ontorio and Alberta as newcomer?
@pharma-code Жыл бұрын
Hello Emmanuel, Thanks for watching. This is my personal opinion: as long as I have a choice, I would choose Alberta as opposed to Ontario. Ontario is a very expensive province to live in. With the ongoing economic and inflation issues, it is even much more expensive. So, regardless of what you earn as a software engineer (salaries are relatively higher in Ontario), a huge proportion of your income will go toward bills (and taxes too, are this is also relatively higher in Ontario). However, in Alberta, despite the economic situation and inflation that also affects us here, it is still relatively manageable (it is tough as well, but, very much manageable). Nevertheless, there are still people who are able to make it work in Ontario by living outside the GTA. So, you may also consider this option if you decide to choose Ontario. Ontario may have more opportunities for software engineers compared with Alberta (the tech ecosystem, in recent years, is also rapidly growing especially in Calgary), but, as long as you are able to work for any employer across provinces, remote work is always an option, so, you can apply for remote positions outside of Alberta (while you live in Alberta). That's my personal opinion.

I appreciated very much. I think I'm going to consider all those points

@pharma-code Жыл бұрын
I believe most Canadian companies allow employees to change roles when the opportunity arises. So, YES, you can switch from game design to game developer/engineer as long as you have the skills when the opportunity arises. You will need to learn the required programming languages used by your company for game development. For instance, you may need to learn C# if Unity engine is used, or, learn C++ if Unreal engine is used. There are tons of materials you can use to learn in your spare time, especially video resources on KZbin. You can also have discussions with the game developers in your company to learn what specific tools and languages are used. All the best with your learning!
