Sounds like it went to limp mode. If the gearbox was stuck in 3rd gear... it's a GB issue. If the rpm was stuck below 3k rpm , it's an intake manifold related matter. Car under warranty?

Nice and honest review mr.thana ,yes the MK8 GTI/R it no longer have the rawness and fast like the previous golfs like mk5 mk6 and mk7 ..which is really dissapointing...you can barely even hear the DSG farts like the previous golfs as well...i owned a mk6 gti and currently own a mk7 gti...i think i'll just keep my mk7 for now....
