A very comprehensive list! Thanks! I wonder how this cost of living compares with the wages a typical worker would make. Here in the US housing costs (rent or own) have increased dramatically without a corresponding increase in the wages causing many young people to have to work several jobs in order to get by. Oh one note, in the us it is called insulation rather than isolation.

Loneliness is something many people are confronted with in their lives and I believe it's very prevalent in the Netherlands as well as Dutch people tend to take pride in being "zelfredzaam" (self-reliant). And sharing your personal feelings isn't always part of that. It works when you're feeling strong, when life is smiling, but of course that won't be always the case. Especially during the Covid period there was marked rise in the amount of people feeling emotionally down, especially young people. I can only imagine how hard it is when you're just moved into a new country, taking your first steps into a strange culture. It's true as well making friends as an adult isn't as easy as when you were young. The challenge however isn't insurmountable, but it does require a fair share of positive attitude and courage. This is something everyone can do, no matter the challenge presented. Start small, by figuratively planting one foot before the other. Eventually you'll get there. And never forget to be yourself, as the best you can be is just yourself. :)

moment I hear a migrant talk about housing cost in amsterdam i already know this is another failed channel. Dutch people dont go live near there. only work. We dont wanna be scammed. I can get a 240k home in lelystad brand new with 160m2 space and gardens. While in amsterdam for 500.000 you get a tiny home with shitty everything. Amsterdam is 300-400% more expensive than any normal municipality. People who get advised to flock to these places are being lied to and being scammed. Dont use for the netherlands scam cities as examples of living. You litterally are being scammed in amsterdam. dont promote for other foolish tourists the same. Failure video, be warned. Dont take this source as truth, its blown up nowhere and nobody in the Netherlands is willing to live in a scam city, with extreme left agenda, overpriced anything. If you do you are a fool. People who promote this, are bigger fools. Sincerely, A real dutch citizen

Muitos parabéns pelo vídeo Mafalda. From what I've seen, one of the biggest problems in all Europe is the cost of accommodation, of course the Netherlands is no exception.

Impressive personal account of your lessons learned. I appreciate the one about having to work to create your own life. Here is another one now that you have build your life here successfully. There will be people who want to use you as a platform to move here. They will become a burden, because they never learned the lessons of loneliness that you did. Of course that’s another lesson for you to learn.

Can you please make a video on how to find your "first" apartment when you just arrive in the Netherlands? Assuming the person does not have a local address, bank account or a permanent phone number. All the house-hunting videos are for someone who has all those three things. But I could not find one video that tells you how to find an apartment when you first arrive and have no bank account.

It is a little confusing to put the prices of houses or apartments in meters since most of the people just want to know the measurements of the whole house or apartment. Also, I imagine that the the two most “used” currencies in the world are the euro and the dollar so, mainly I expected mostly comparison euro-dollar.

My and my wife were on holiday in Portugal last month. We were totally taken by the friendliness of the the people ( as long as they are not in their cars 😜 ) We were totally taken by the relaxed atmosphere in Lisbon. If I ever would retire in any other country ( I am Dutch ), I think it would be in Portugal. I hear your appreciation of the Netherlands, but don’t underestimate your own country. Portugese people ( as long as they are not in their cars 😜 ) are the most sincere and relaxed people I encountered.

You also have the windmill in Bunschoten-Spakenburg. Bunschoten is where the farmers lived and Spakenburg is where the fishermen lived. My mother was born in Eemdijk. And me and my twin brother grew up there from the hospital. Then I moved to Bunschoten and now I have lived in beautiful Spakenburg for 25 years. In a fisherman's house from 1925. These 4 villages are. Bunschoten Spakenburg, Eemdijk and Zevenhuizen. In the northernmost point of the Province of Utrecht. bouw korenmolen de Hoop 2009 / RTV Bunschoten kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXq2lXSsmN6Cec0

Unfortunately, you missed Spakenburg. That is an old fishing village on the old Zuiderzee. Now Center Parks have the Eemhof. What we have to look at. Oh yeah. The newest province of the Netherlands. So now we are in almost all markets in the Netherlands, Northern Belgium and West Germany, just across the border. t'Stoepje. And 340 fish stalls. La Plase or something is also from Spakenburg.

What I have noticed as a Dutch person (I am living abroad), countries with 'slower' economies (like .pt) creates a culture where, because people are not financially stable (or not have ample opportunities) they will introduce (silly) hierarchies in society where education and family background is valued a lot because it signals upward mobility. Being uneducated in such a country is viewed much worse than being uneducated in the Netherlands. Dutch people do not care about education or hierarchy because the baseline of knowledge is high regardless of completed education levels. Sometimes education is even viewed as 'wasting your time' - depending on your work-field. You can get a good paying job without education in NL. This 'inflexibility' and 'hierarchy' that .pt has, I see this mindset all over Europe - especially the poor parts.
