In what way is bub bub bub bub bub bub bah anything like a lip trill ? (I know my lips won't trill naturally. The only time I can do so is when I use my hands to pull up the side is my cheek/mouth. And that took a few goes before there was any success.)

I'm not sure if this helps me or not. I could be wrong, but I think for me I can't lip trill b/c my lips never fully close when my mouth is relaxed naturally. They are always slightly parted. So too much air escapes so my lips don't move. I tried this method, but can't really tell if it is helping as intended.

Hey Danielle, if this (and lip trilling) aren't a good fit for you, here is a different exercise that might be a better fit: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6SnmGqKYryHY5I

Ah that description sounds so familiar. It has to be something to do with the details of face, bone, muscle, etc. differing in different individuals, I reckon.

This is better than the lip trill. I can really hear and feel what a relaxed singing voice Is like when singing.

I joined my church's praise and worship team and they asked me to work on controlling my vibrato and trying to sing more naturally (I was taught choral singing for years). Since then, I've lost a lot of confidence and feel as if I've taken big steps backwards in my ability. It makes sense to try not to be so self conscious but Im not sure how to concentrate on new things while not paying attention to how it sounds.

Thanks Ben, I have been working on this lately as part of my quartet. Ignoring my ears can make it seem like my voice isn't what it should be. But when I do this others tell me the sound is confident and strong.

I will try to do that. When I have practiced for a while, I will give you information how it works for me. Maybe sometimes simple are tips the best. ;-)

Nice information what you are showing. Only as something I would like to hear the demonstrations in a more critical area of the voice where the transition is, so that we can hear how it sounds on the difficult areas. Talking about all your videos because I am only hearing your chest voice. Great tips though

Great video Ben, very smooth and clear. It's nice to hear tips from a trained & accomplished barbershopper. :) Perhaps you could create videos geared more specifically towards barbershop: 5 easy mistakes, 7 ways to sound great, 4 things to know when you pick an arrangement, etc. I think a lot of people would be interested in these, particularly in the barbershop community.

Thank you for the kind words, Julien. I really like the idea of doing some barbershop themed videos... I'll have to think about that one and see what I can come up with. Thanks for the idea! If you found the video to be helpful, I would greatly appreciate a "like" or "share" on facebook. I have tons of videos and great content in the works, but I need all the help I can get to spread the word and help as many people as possible. Thanks again my friend!
