Hyaluronic acid and cortisone got me by until I finally replaced my knee. It's my better knee now. I used to take all the hard steps with my right leg to coddle my bad knee.

Very informative, thank you! I would add that people who hike with dogs should keep them leashed. Annoying to have a pooch sniffing around you when preparing dinner, or being aggressive!

Hey brother enjoyed your video It’s exactly what I was looking for. I am a recently retired LEO from Central Florida and have been bitten by the hiking bug. I have been hiking parts of the Florida and Appalachian Trail, one or two day trips and I have come to the realization that hiking alone can be dangerous. I am looking for a partner/group to hike with in the area and thought you might know some contacts. Thanks Gil.

So as a smoker is it in essence Don’t hike the AT? I’m a very very respectful smoker but I have found anti-smokers go out of their way to walk on the fringe near me just to jump on to me for smoking or do the huge fake cough spell when they have to go out of their way to come over near me. As I said I’m very respectful and get as far from others as I can. I guess what I’m saying is I’ve met many rude disrespectful “preachy” type non smokers. Proper etiquette both directions!!!

I'm not a hiker at all. I will probably never walk the AT. However, your points for the trail are unwritten rules for life in general. It's called respect. Very well-spoken man! It's how we treat others in everyday life.

Hi. I appreciate your thoughts on this subject. I can't argue with checking with the doctor, but I admit I won't be doing that. I will be 70 in December (2022) and have been section-hiking the trail since Feb. 1992. I'm at Caledonia State Park in PA. I strongly agree with the use of poles, especially those that have cushioned handles. I'll add this: I've remained active my entire adult life, walking 5 or more times daily, doing frequent day hikes, and visiting the weight room 2-3 times per week (light weights, more reps). I think continual conditioning is important for all, regardless of hiking. For me, it helps me from becoming an old man... God Bless all!

If you have been playing around the Econ for a long time you have to remember the old suspension bridge across it. It would swing left and right as you walked across those two planks placed side by side and suspended with the wires. My understanding is that new bridge was built for horses and mountain bikes to cross over the river. The best thing is it stops any air boats from going further up the river. Leaving the upper parts for canoes and the such. A long time ago ( early 70's ) I paddled from Highway 50 to the St Johns on the Econ and filmed it. Two nights & three days since I took my time.

Tootoosahatchee creek in Tosohatchee Wilderness Management Area. Yep , wet feet there is nothing new. Camping over night you will hear a lot of Owls taking back and forth during the night . Been messing around this area from there to the Wekiva River since 1952. Main playground is the Econlockhatchee River. The Little Big Econ area that's now the Florida Trail. Walked/camped that part of the trail before it was a trail and still do. lol

I know that the KZbin is all about video. But, I would be most interested in hearing or reading more of your reflections upon the trail. Do you have any plans to share more of your thoughts about this journey in the near future?
@probationtermination

Contemplating that right now. Im wondering if my videos give sort of a false view of the trail being that I don't film too much of the road walks and bad days, and ugliness of parts of the trail. I have discussed it with a lot of other hikers and am formulating what I may want to say if I was to do that type of video. In no way do I want it to come across in a way that it discourages someone to attempt a thru hike. I just need more time to collect all my thoughts and let it settle in.

@@probationtermination Every KZbin video gives a false impression of the trail. Just gives an honest view of YOUR impressions. Every experience must be unique because of the baggage in our heads
