I've got a weird one with my daughter's 2003 1.3 duratec Fiesta. It was losing coolant from the thermostat housing so I replaced that with a new one and it's still dropping coolant. There's no visible leaks and it doesn't drop it while parked so it must be when under pressure. The weird thing is that the car drives really well, there's no mayo on the filler cap, no white smoke when warmed up, no fault codes, no misfires. Other than the coolant loss there's absolutely no evidence for a head gasket, yet I'm suspicious. Time for a pressure test I think,.

In principle this is a great idea but in practice doesn’t work or requires Herculean strength to line the alternator up to the engine block again. Best way imo is to follow this up until you’ve got the old belt off, then to nip the alternator bolts up, put the belt onto the alternator and PAS pulley, then using a £10 stretch fit tool (can find on Amazon or eBay) on the crank pulley, then turning the crank forcing the belt onto the pulley. That way you are putting stress on the belt (as intended) rather than any bolts or threads trying to re-align the alternator. You’ll need to push the belt well onto the water pump before you start turning the crank pulley as it’ll try to ping itself off. Once done you can tighten up alternator bolts and it’s party time… some great ideas to help me get started though so thanks for the vid mate

Whats the small belt for on it then? I always thought it was for AC but a friend says that powers the power steering pump
@deltaunit7
@deltaunit7 8 ай бұрын
@matinroe962 it's been a while since iv been under one of these. From memory the output shaft is attached to a pulley which has two locations for belts to sit, the inner race is for the main auxiliaries like alternator, power steering, water pump ect, the outer race on the output pullet is for minor auxiliary like Aircon pump. If your car doesn't have Aircon, the location of the power steering pump goes to the back of the engine and is driven from the minor auxiliary belt. If you have aircon, the minor belt drives this and the power steering moves up the engine to be driven from the main auxiliary belt.

Just got a used 1.0 and trying to get my money back. But they want me to prove it even has a problem!? It’s losing coolant and one hot day when I got home from a 20 minute drive the coolant water was boiling. I can’t seem to make it do it again though as I want to video it. Also the plastic is swollen where the coolant is. This was a 30 degree day and now the weather is cooler it doesn’t seem to do it.

How would I know if it is the housing or the pump leaking, when I fill the tank it immediately starts to leak, if it were the pump would it leak immediately? Leaking without the engine running. Thanks.

When the engine is really hot my fan doesn’t work and the coolant comes back into the reservoir and goes all over the floor out of the cap I can’t find anything on why its happening.
@deltaunit7
@deltaunit7 Жыл бұрын
Might be a problem with your thermostat, usuall when the coolant gets warm the thermostat will open and let's coolant runs round the system and trigger the fan to kick in. sometimes they get stuck in the close possession. Iv also got a video on how to replace a thermostat housing, which will show you how to get at it if you decide to put a new one in.

Just done this with help from this video. Longest time for me was getting the hoses off the thermostat housing. You need to get them moving by twisting and pulling up and down. For people who asked about getting the alternator back on: Put the belt on the alternator and put the bottom nut in. Do not fully tighten it. Swing the alternator up and apply right pressure to line up the top bolts. Evenly tighten the two top bolts. When bleeding the system, there is a bleed screw on the top right of the radiator if you were to look at it from insdie the engine. Undo that nut and pure coolant in to the expansion tank until coolant comes out of the bleed screw. Tighten the bleed screw. Put the cap on the expansion tank and run the car at 3000 rpm for 2 minutes. Top up coolant if necessary . Run the car again at 3000rpm for 2minutes. Top up coolant if necessary. Make sure you've got hot air in the cabin and you should be good to go. The whole job took me about 5 hours. Never want to do it again. I was dead after that.

lets say £20 for the housing, £20 for the thermostat (might as well ge t a new one while your there) £20 for the 5ltr of coolant. it's really recommended to change the drive belt as well if you're gonna remove the alternator so that's another £20 that's £80 in total if you did it yourself. if a garage did it they would proberbly charge maybe £30 an hour(can't see them taking more than an hour to do it) that would come to £110 maybe a bit more. the question is , is it worth all the hastle doing it myself or pay a little extra and let the garage do it? the thing about this kind of job is the great satisfaction you get when it's all finished and you;ve done it yourself. decisions, decisions. love these mk6 fiesta vids i'm learning a lot of stuff, keep up the great work mate.
@deltaunit7
@deltaunit7 Жыл бұрын
Hey thank you for watching my vids, love the feedback. I think a garage would charge more than £110 tho, main stealers would be easily double because they have to use OEM parts which hold a higher price. Where as a decent independent garage using quality aftermarket parts like bosch would be £170 ish. The video shows the job is pretty straight forward, and is definitely something the home mechanic could do with a bag of spanners and some time.
@alexe5461
@alexe5461 Жыл бұрын
@@deltaunit7 yep you're right. garages would only use genuine oem parts so the price would be a lot more than £110 thanks for pointing that out. i used kseal to stop the coolant leak but i'd like to change it as soon as possible. they say kseal is a permanant fix but i don't want the housing to start leaking again.

Hi nice video! I have fiesta 2007 1.3 duratec, There is a small leakage on engine radiator, but didn't touch it because it was so minor ( topped it up every 2 months or so). Then I spotted that when you use cabin heating, the leakage is higher ( need toping up frequently, like every week or shorter), but when not used it's again minor. Can you help and point to a where the leakage is? Thanks
@deltaunit7
@deltaunit7 2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I'm not familiar with that 1.3 engine, but as you saying it runs out of coolant alot quicker when the cabin heaters are on, I would jack the car up run the cabin heaters and find the drip, follow it up to its source, could be thermostat houses (they often warp and the seal breaks) could be a split coolant pipe or a loose clamp etc. Watch my thermostat housing video it might help :)
