In 2001 the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC presented an exhibit on Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. As evidence of her deep knowledge of couture, it mentioned she always wanted French seams. I have been trying ever since to find out what that meant. Thank you so much for solving this decades-old mystery for me, and explaining it so well!

Hi, Nikki! I have many pieces of clothing that are plenty useful still, i.e. p.j.'s and slacks, with dead elastic or I've lost wt and they won't stay put on my hips. Do you have a video about replacing elastic; I looked but didn't find one on your cache. This would be so very welcomed. THANK YOU! : )

I know I was not dreaming last night when a video of you came on and showed you doing a back pack tutorial. You used black , red, and white fabric with stethoscopes on it. Now I can't find it anywhere , even when I type it in. I really want to make it, did you take it down?

This fabric is cut to an 8 x 10 however you can make the bag as big, or as small as you would like. Keep in mind you will have seams of 1/4" on each side. I have learned a 5x7 bag (fabric cut to 6x9) is also a popular size.

Thank you so much! If you want to leave an opening near the magnetic strip, go ahead and do so. Some people have found that easier - I just prefer not to see the closing in the front, mid section of the flap. I hope the video helps you!

How do you deal with having a bathroom break if you are alone in your booth.
@SewnByNikki
@SewnByNikki 2 ай бұрын
Hello! Honestly, make a connection with your neighbor as soon as you are setting up. That will help. I tend to limit the beverages I drink throughout my time at a market or event. I go before setting up and right after breaking down and loading my vehicle, usually. On the rare occasion when I do need to go, I ask my neighbor to watch my booth for me. If you attend the same market on a regular basis, it will be a natural thing you do for each other. It's a bit harder if it is a one time event - though doable. Vendors are usually helpful to each other..... just say hello when you arrive and make small talk. If you arrive first, acknowledge them and if you see them struggling with something, offer to help. It will go a long way to them helping with your customers! (Also, I have a till for cash but prefer to wear a fanny pack for my phone and funds or a vendor apron so it is easier for me to walk away - with my money and valuables).

@SewnByNikki
@SewnByNikki Ай бұрын
Have you checked inside of your bobbin case to see if you have a lot of lint fiber built up? Clean inside, and under the case. I would also suggest using 100% cotton thread as well and be sure your tension is not pulling the thread too tight. You should consider loosening it, try 3.0. Hope those suggestions help!

How about if I want to reinforce the strap to be sewed in the entire lenght of the fabric from the bottom and the edge of welt would meet on the top of the bottle, and then add extra fabric to make drawstring. If I am carrying those heavy duty above 1 litter. We don't the want the seam breaks due to the weight and the bottle falls on my feet.

How do you figure what to charge for your products?
@SewnByNikki
@SewnByNikki 2 ай бұрын
It really depends on your area, where you live or are selling. Selling in person is different from online but the rule of thumb is 3x your cost. I teach this in my retreats. Maybe one day I will put together a video on that.......

Thanks for the tutorial ! Mother’s Day this weekend and birthdays too so I will be making several for my GFs …they are tea lovers . No reason. Everyone has different tastes. I prefer these, instead of a zipper. I am notorious for shoving receipts and bills into my wallet and they always get caught in the zipper and end up ripped. : )

@@SewnByNikki any new bags tutorials. I am making Ribbon Skirts and want to make bags to go with them, I have tried other tutorials...I prefer yours though because you are more clear in your instructions. Today I sewed a bag together all sorts of wonky because the video instructor was not clear enough; there was more music and highspeed sewing than actual verbal instructions 😂🤦🏽‍♀️
