Hello, great video. Just wondered if you had produced a video showing removal of the fuel tank on an LD10. I’ve just acquired one and I need to give the fuel system a good check/flush. Thanks, Phil

O.M.G. Penelope I thought u we’re making a career out of it. I guess the music and classic autos do coincide. At least u didn’t mix a bunch of yelling n screaming like lots of other repair videos (GOOD SHOW) but I almost fell asleep. Maybe sum (genesis) Phil Collins singing era would be good Or euro RUSH not the Canadian RUSH though. Cheers

Dear Catherine, is there a main difference between a Lanchester and a Daimler LD10? (I`m going to be your Austrian fan club member #1)

This is sooo lovely! There is a cheap LD 10 for sale just nearby here in Austria, only my wife won`t let me buy it. It`right hand drive, of course...... :(

Bushes can also be made from a strip of motorcycle inner tube rubber cut to the right width. Clean with meths, stick with superglue and wind onto the pin until the required dia is reached, just exceeding the hole id. Cut the strip, scerf the end with sandpaper or angle grinder. Lubricate with soapy water and push in. If desired a day or so later, put the pin in the vice and strain the bush to open a gap between the outer di and run super glue in.

Helpful video thanks.. My MG diaphram was completely SOLID in there so I fabricated a disc from rubber sheet. It didn't hold vacuum for long unfortunately.. seems it was leaking from around where the centre rod went through the diaphram.. At least I tried...😕

You know you can buy a sheet of Viton "rubber" for $10 bucks on Ebay to make your own brand new diaphragm, right? Viton will last forever, too.

Very informative video. An alternative approach I have used, though not for such a specific part (hence your use of molds), was to purchase large muffler hanger material from an autoparts store and use a hole saw of the approximate diameters (drill center and saw i.d.) to make bushings.
@yoesomite21998 жыл бұрын
as far as i know , each part should be mixed by weight when using Polyurethane

Eight years later and everyone is still blaming the Bushes!
@endingiphone8 жыл бұрын
I agree with applying the polyurethane directly into the bushing and leaving it there. I would recommend trying an shore 60a - 75a and take time to prep your metal surfaces. Remove all old remains of the rubber bushing, clean with a solvent, scuff with 60 - 80 grit on all surfaces making contact with the polyurethane and clean one last time. From experience with super glue and other various different compounds, I can tell you that super glue gets brittle and is destined to fail. Try it out next time. Good luck!

Why all the glue? Why not pore it in and be done with it?
@catherinejones56088 жыл бұрын
The rubber does stick to the metal on its own, but not strongly enough without the glue :)

Why are your tools as rusty as the car?! J/K, nice vid. The rubber spring perches are just to eliminate rubbing noise and can be used after considerable wear. Also, you can cross refrence bushing size with energy and prothane, and often find a suitable off-label replacement.

Very informative video. I'm glad that you're able to keep the old girl running by being so crafty. The portion on annealing the metal plate was something that I have taken note of because I have experienced issues with cracking of the metal at those crimped areas. When you had to cast a new bakelite part from "Milliput", what material did you use for a mold? Many thanks.
@catherinejones56088 жыл бұрын
+William Charles Funnily enough I made the mold out of Milliput as well :) The bridge I made is still in place and working fine :)

Hi Alex Watts. I have heard that the rubber impregnated fabric patches that are used to repair airbeds are a similar material to the original used in vacuum advance units as it is flexible but not stretchy. As I recall there was no slack in the diaphragm. Hope this helps :)
@alexwatts18039 жыл бұрын
Great video, I am in the process of trying to fix my spitfires vacuum advance. I have managed to get the unit apart, but I have a question. I have sourced some new rubber to make a new diaphragm as mine was completely destroyed. When I put it back in do I need to have some slack in the rubber? Or does it need to be fitted so it is flat inside the vac unit? Many thanks. Alex
