I remember turning into speed to watch this race just like I have done every year, and just saying WTF once I saw the Daytona Prototypes. Was very disappointed and just turned it off. Almost cried.

Had most of these cars in AFX slot car racing. Full bodied cars with monster motors screaming down the back stretch. Nothing will ever be like it again.

I can't say how much I love these 71-76 GM b and c bodies. We had a 71 Electra and a 74 LeSabre. The Electra took off like a rocket.

My Aunt Lee was married to Craig Breedlove. She later divorced him and married Nye Frank who was the primary car fabricator for Craig Spirit of America. Nye later went on to build Baja off road racing cars. Both are featured in this video. I was just a young boy when all this stuff was going on. My aunt took me to the races a number of times with the MIckey Thompson stadium racing events. It was fun times in the 80's

Modified Sportsman had a pretty loose rulebook. The #99 1961 Ford, had a stroked 482ci Mopar Hemi in it for this race. This car was outlawed by 1968.
