Thankyou for this info. Question 1- If the rose that I bought have no developed nodes, what should I do? Question 2- Should I cover the cuttings with a soda bottle to promote growth?
@thechaosgardener
@thechaosgardener 8 күн бұрын
Something I should have mentioned when I made this tutorial is the importance of making sure the stems are healthy. This is based on speculation since I cannot see the cuttings but I would guess they might have been treated and so I would recommend soaking them under water for 10 minutes before starting the process of preparing the cuttings. When you make cuts you’ll want to look closely at the edge near the bark. This is the cambium. When you get familiar with what healthy cambium looks like you’ll spot rot. If there’s any rot in the cuttings you need to remove the rot and make sure the visible ends are healthy material. The cambium is going to be important for transporting water to the leaves and turning into roots. If it’s rotten or starting to decay it won’t be effective at moving water and turning into roots. If the cuttings/flowers are relatively new and appear to be healthy they should be easily rooted. If they are not healthy they won’t root. A soda bottle can be useful but you have to be careful because if the stems are starting to rot the bottle will accelerate the rot and make a great environment for mold.

My sweet potatoes leaves are all turning yellow and are falling off, I’ve had them since the end of early fall right after I harvested them. They were doing great and I even gave them a little bit of food. Any idea why out the blue they’ve lasted this long and now end of December and Beginning January it’s turning yellow

I would add some hydroponic nutrient solution. They might have leaf miners or a fungal issue. I’ve had both of those things happen. I like to root my slips in my aerogardens

The term for mycilium rapidly colonizing a substrate is also the title of my favorite book by Paul Stamets "Mycilium Running". I bought my copy at a yard sale for $1 from someone who was more concerned about spreading knowledge than making a profit.

The leaves look like a Shangri-La but the growth pattern seems more like a Pakistani. Pakistani mulberry trees have more of a vertical upward growth pattern, whereas Shangri-La tends to grow horizontally, droop and want to grow straight to the ground. I'm constantly trying to encourage my Shangri-La Mulberry to grow more upright. I clip all the side and downward pointing branches, trying to leave the upward pointing buds. But they often change course and grow downward anyway. Beautiful trees, though! I love the HUGE leaves. And the berries are MUCH tastier than Pakistani mulberries! 😋

I’m just learning grapes 🍇…A volunteer showed up in my yard two years ago … The first year it had a ton of delicious but tiny purple grapes (I didn’t know to sacrifice clusters) The birds didn’t care that they were tiny and ate every single one I tried to learn to prune properly, and I thought I had pruned properly, but the next year I had lots of lush foliage but zero blooms or grapes So, I pruned it hard to try and get cuttings to plant elsewhere--not having luck yet
@thechaosgardener
@thechaosgardener Ай бұрын
Nice work! Yeah you only get grape flowers from the previous years developed wood. If you accidentally remove all of the previous years wood you get no grapes. It’s common after a hard pruning to get no fruit because you probably removed the last two years worth of wood. Once you prune in light of this idea it helps. Best of luck!

It’s illegal with vegetative propagation. Growing from seed like I did is not vegetative propagation so it’s not legally protected because the resulting varieties will be genetically different. The fruits taste slightly different as well but I’m alright with that. They are just not technically Zespri kiwis. They are chaos kiwis

@thechaosgardener Ай бұрын
Sometimes you can promote suckering of a grafted apple tree and clone the rootstock clones that sucker up. In my opinion local wild type varieties are best. Seek or iNaturalist marks gps locations of plants so you might be able to identify the location of a plant you want to “clone”. Just be careful about trespassing :) I found a local passiflora incarnata at a local park using this method and was able to forage some fruit (and seeds)

Nice. I made one of the cattle panel greenhouses years ago. It's very sturdy and can support some weight on top like snow . I will say in the summer greenhouses get way hot if not good enough air flow. I had over 125 degrees some days in there. I have a door on one side and a window on the other. Good luck.

Thanks, yeah I’ll probably leave the door open in the summer. It’s also shaded in the summer by a black walnut tree that loses its leaves in the winter and lets a lot of light in. I’m hoping that helps balance the summer sun
