A question . Is there a way to convert a a standard .AVI or.MP4 file into the .FBX format, and then import it to UNREAL? I'm testing some door motions, and using a 3RD. party program to animate the door sequence. THE old fashion way would be to isolate the door, and slap it into a blue screen background. HELP!

What about randomizing what is used as the instance model? Like if I have 3 models and want it to randomly select between them so that it's not just trees.

I found it difficult to follow, as you're doing each step in full. I think an overview first would have helped to stage out what you are doing, then get into the detail.

Loved Softimage, simple and fast to model. Maya is just a annoying mess. Would have been better if they pulled the plug on Maya instead.

They killed Softimage instead of inferior Maya and 3DS Max. Blender 2.81 will kill them soon.

I remember using Softimage in 2006 called XSI, when it belonged to AVID. It was darn powerfull software. Now I am just hearing about it being abandoned since 2014. I can't imagine the all time animators that were working with that software, must go learn a new one. so pretty much back to beginners mode with years of experience... that's a bummer.

Single Chain solver is designed for single chain - just 2 joints and a bone between them. But I (and i saw others riggers too) often use it for 3 joints chain and it works fine. There is not a lot of technical info regarding that joint in MAYA docs. And even in MAYA docs they show example of SC solver used on 3 joints. So, guys, if you know more information about SC solver and the way it suppose to be used - please share.

I'm super new to rigging so... big grain of salt, but I was reading recently that the main difference between the two is the twist of the joints. with RP you need to use a pole vector to control the twist but with SC the ik controls the twist directly as seen around 5:15

It's also important to mention that for RP solver to work properly, all joints must be oriented in a same way, otherwise RP solver will be flipping even if the pole vector is present.

Why Avtodesk did this? Why did they abandon such a powerful software like softmage? Is there nothing that can be done about this? Sell please this wonderful program! If you sell this software you will win the respect of your users! This will mean that the rest of your products are made too with the thought of people ...

I just wish I could still buy XSI. :( I don't need "support" or "maintenance"...just let me buy a new license of the last version AD released. I mean, why remove it as a source of income? "Here's XSI, that'll be $2k please. Oh, no returns, no transfers, and no tech help. You're on your own once we verify the license"...that's all it would take. AD would be getting all the money, with virtually zero of the responsibility. ...sigh... Now I'm depressed again. :(
