I see the thematic breakdown of this "Danse"........ 1. The solo violin's devil 5ths and open 5ths. 2. The main waltz theme with the spicciati in it (Gm, Fm, Gm, Fm) 3. This is followed by the smoother "Witches' round dance" theme, also in waltz style. 4. The Witches round theme happens again with more sentimentality--almost like a "Marguerite" theme from the opera "Faust." All of these themes play out and have chromatic or modulatory alterations. Just before the final recitative in the concertmaster's violin passage, the violin section does a downward "accacciature" passage twice---I guess this depicts the flying witches on broomsticks passing over some haunted town or something.

my favorite classical masterpiece of all time is this the recording of Les Clefs de l'orchestre de Jean-François Zygel with l'orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France? Or the recording of Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal recording?
@DrGrDo14 күн бұрын
Your first guess is correct. In fact, the name of the orchestra is mentioned in the description.

When my mom first played me this song, I was about ten years old. I drew up a bunch of (poorly drawn) scenes of ghosts of all different types arriving to a ball, and showed them to her in succession to create a little music video. I lived out my dream when my 8th grade band/ orchestra had a Halloween concert and i got to play my bassoon wearing a 13 Ghosts costume and had to push my Jackal head-cage aside to put the bocal of my basoon where i could reach the reed 😂

I'm 42 years old. My music teacher Wendy Wong introduced this song to my Grade 8 class. She was using this song to demonstrate the theme of Halloween. The idea of ghouls dancing in the night, witches and warlocks casting spells, skeletons using their bones to rattle, and of course in the end the sunrise when all the dead go back to sleep to the sound of the rooster! This song has never left me, and will always remind me of that powerful music class. Hearing this song is nostalgic and I'm so glad I was introduced to this masterpiece as a pre-teen!
