One other factor: Klingon leaders are expected to lead from the front, where the enemy is. So they designed a ship to emphasize that.
@LightBusterX4 сағат бұрын
This was also explored in an episode of StarGate Universe, where the crew of the Destiny discovered the shields of the ship where looping between every frequency needed to deflect and protect from every possible incoming object or weapon. When they tuned the shield for laser based firing only, the ship took almost no damage, but then the enemy started using bullets and missiles to inflict damage since the manually tuned shields would not stop that.

the warp scale was re-calibrated from TOS when an upper limit to warp speed was found. similar to celcius, the freezing point being zero, and the boiling point being 100, the new warp scale was 1-10, the 10 being the newfound upper limit.

trans-phasic means involving a variety of phasing; maybe trans-warp meant engines that could generate a warp bubble that manifested along a spectrum of warp signatures, simultaneously?

I thought that the Warp Factors were actually exponential, not a cubed function. if you actually considered actual distances between planets and reversed into warp factors, then a exponential factor is needed to get from planet to planet in a timely manner. I could do the exact math. but if a planet is 4 light years away from earth then 64 times the speed of light means a journey of 4 ly/1 * 12 mon/1 ly * 1 ly/64 ly = 0.75 months or about 3 weeks for a 4 light year trip. And that's a small distance for the Warp Factor as given. I can get around to calculating a exponential warp factor some time.

Warp drives based off of Miguel Alcubeire’s model will also function as a shield since space itself is warped around you so anything that touches said bubble of spacetime will be instantly flung behind it.

I always viewed the Excelsior-class transwarp project as a call back to the age of flight when they were working to break the sound barrier. To go trans supersonic. The transonic range or barrier where you're breaking the sound barrier. Transwarp was the end goal of the Excelsior, to get into the 'Super warp' velocities range, akin to 'Super sonic.' But instead of reaching 'super warp' speeds, they discovered another range of warp velocities in between the then standard warpdrives and transwarp speeds, that all warp drives would be able to access going forward. It was an evolutionary step forward, but not a revolutionary quantum leap ahead in warp. So not a failure, just not the success Starfleet had been hoping for.

Also cannon and Starfleet Cannon roster states there was no mention of a TOS connie with the name USS New Jersey on the Star Fleet Roster and yest that TOS connie that used the TOS design is the USS New Jersery with the starfleet Registery that was named in honour of Terry Matalas's birthdate which was in the same ship class as the TOS Enterprise though it was not mentioned on the same ship roster of connies as the other same connies which includes the Enterprise

I mean the Enterprise from Next Gen had plenty of detail, too. When it was being designed they came up with an entire set of blueprints for it. This is my favorite Enterprise but that has a lot to do with the fact it's the one I grew up with. Every iteration of this ship has had a lot of love put into it. Plus Andrew Probert designed this and the 1701-D so you can't say that didn't have the same amount of artistry and care invested in it.

Every Starfleet ship has a deflector dish.The Miranda Class for example has it under their main hull, its not as effective as the "conventional" one but still strong enough. If you look for example at the saucer section of the Galaxy Class, then you can see a secondary deflector so the saucer can fly without the engine section.

sci fi asside for a minute . how big would the generator for a plasma shield be? When I see spacecraft comming back from space I always wonder, is there no way to actually use the reentry plasma to shield the ship.

I put Enterprise, Discovery, SNWs, and Picard in the New Trekverse. It's the universe that spawned JJtrek. Why? Well, ship color is one big part. TOS was a grayish tan, TMP was pearlescent white but NX, JJtos, Dis, and SNW are all silver ships. That's why in TOS - Voy we never hear of the Zindi or their massive attack on earth, it didn't happen in TOSverse. However by the time of Picard the 2 universes are nearly identical. That's why the D and Picard exist there but they have holograms of the SNW Enterprise. You can explain the New Jersey as the original Constitution prototype that was modified when it was put into production and that would explain why it's silver in Pic instead of the grayish tan it would be in TOS. TOSverse and NTrek are similar, but it seems human attitudes are less advanced in NTrek, more gritty, less compassion, lower moral standards, less lofty ideals, and more tension between men and women. (Which, of course, mirrors the way our society has backslid since the TOS - Voy era.)

Years ago there was a book or poster called Scotty's reference (or something) of the Enterprise, refit of course and had a lot of these references. Also, there was a book called Starfleet Prototype, I believe, that had a bunch more TMP era starship designs.

Do note that its very unlikely Harkov would have been eligible to become a capsuleer. Not everyone can become one, as you need to be basically a peak human being both physically and mentally for the procedure not to be essentially lethal. 20/20 vision, perfect hearing, intellect in the 95 percentile, blood pressure withing a very specific range, ability to run for 60 kilometers without pause and to give your full attention to several things at once... Those are all BASIC REQUIREMENTS. Overall, 14 percent of candidates only pass basic screening, and only 5 percent of these become capsuleers. So the odds of Harkov being able to become a capsuleer are really, really slim even with the technology available, especially since the last step is literally killing yourself to experience resurrection for the first time. And hell you could say the odds of any leader of the empire being eligible to be a capsuleer would be really slim. Overall, capsuleers tend to be (wealthy) nobodies that won the genetic lottery that ascend into power, rather than already powerful individuals that want to secure their immortality. If becoming a capsuleer was easy, the empires would fill their fleets with them

Although Scotty won in all honesty the engineering path was correct.Mr Scott is a captian to be let out only in case of war because while he'd make a excellent battlefield captain scottys emotions is problematic and causes him to action to quickly.So if not a captain a first officer indeed and always an engineer the best in starfleet.Checkov had the right idea but used the wrong ship.He should of used the shuttles as matter -antimatter bombs to destroy the klingon ships warp in emergency transport the crew off the ship and warp out at max speed.

Khan intentionally missed when the Enterprise was luring them into the Nebula. When it's mentioned just how close it came, Kirk replies - with what seems like a smirk - by saying "They just don't want us going in there."

The smoothness of the hull on the TOS Enterprise was meant to look advanced and futuristic. Purely from an exterior view, it could be argued that it's minimalist look is an upgrade to Pike's Enterprise. Of course this is ignoring that we already saw Pike's Enterprise in TOS. I think we just have to let the differences go. If nothing else, we know there are alternate realities which are still entirely canon, per TNG, so this could be considered one of those and it may still end up being identical to what we know in the future.

Yeah... I don't agree with the outcome... 1. The D7M was the upgrade to make a KTingga. It had 2 torp forward and 1 aft and a cloaking. Also had engines nearly twice as strong as the original D7 2. Klingon torps were only half the strength of Federation torps. This was so they could fire more rapid, getting more fired out then other ships. 3. Klingon disrupters were EXTREMELY week and extremely short ranged. The trade off was weight, more could be added compared to phasers and were more devastating again the actual hull then phasers. 4. Klingon shields were actually half as strong as federations but their hulls were stronger and the panels were actually armor, not just decorations

Are you kidding?! Scotty destroyed 17 Klingon ships and make it out of the neutral zone alive and Starfleet think he's not fit to command a starship?! Did they have shit for brain?! As for the computer allowing the 9 klingon ships with the shared shields to be destroyed, it's entirely on the people who programmed that scenario without specify to the computer that doesn't work in real life... so Kirk bluntly cheat and got rewarded, Scotty is resourceful and get a slap on the wrist... well, fuck you Starfleet!

The weird thing about this is that the ToS ships although well documented in terms of design reasoning kind of make no sense. Particularly the neck... Notably no other race has such an obvious weakpoint, and most other racial ships are far more compact. Ferengi, Romulan, and Jem'hadar ships all being cases in point. The Borg have spheres and cubes...
@Oh_that_Fab6 күн бұрын
Also, I think it's worth pointing out that there's a clear, deliberate separation from The Enterprise. There's too much lore and capability associated with that ship / those ships, that reduces writing headroom with really well informed trekkies. Different can mean fresh, new, and most importantly, not subject to the events of previous series.
