For those who don’t have a clue (like me) on wth Hyrox is, from Wikipedia: HYROX is an indoor fitness competition that combines 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) of running and eight functional workout stations, alternating between running and functional exercises.[1] It bills itself as "The World Series of Fitness Racing" and "A sport for Everybody". This guy didn’t bother to briefly explain it.

Salut Martin ! I have the first iteration of this Garmin Instinct (camo version) and I must admitt that something was missing : sleep tracking. That's the reason why I upgraded to Instinct 2X Solar. Now Garmin is telling that the 3rd iteration of the model has an improved solar panel and better battery life. I frankly doubt they could do better than Garmin Instinct 1 or 2. As for the one I wear as I'm writing these words, Garmin Instinct 2X Solar - Coyote Tan - when it is on a full charge the screen displays 44 days (without Solar charge but potentially unlimited on Solar charge). So why upgrade to Instinct 3 ? Just because of the addition of an aluminium bezel and a perfectly hypothetical improved software ? However, thank you for this great video which I like a lot and keep up the job ! Greetings from France. Jean.

Got the Instinct 2 solar 1,5 year ago and it’s been fantastic. 27 days of battery life on a full charge. Been thinking about getting the 2X to get a bigger screen (hard to use glasses when kayaking whitewater) and for the flashlight. The new one is too expensive.

I can agree with not buying the new models if the current one it fits all your needs, but I wouldn't consider the I1 -> I2 a very small and iterative change, it received a more efficient solar panel, connect IQ support, better display, new OHR sensor and so much more. At a point it also started to receive updates available only to higher end models like Morning Report, Training Readiness, Power Metrics. Considering this, I think upgrading from the 1 to the 3 is worth it if you want all the latest stuff (the flashlight alone is a game changer) but if you are okay with basic stuff and non-upgradable watch faces for example, the Instinct 1 is a perfectly fine and capable device up to this day and beats most of the new G-Shocks easily in terms in functionality, even the legendary Rangeman and Mudmaster models. I'll keep my Instinct 2 for now because I can't justify buying the 3 at this point for the flashlight/better display/solar only.
@martin-boyce
@martin-boyce 3 күн бұрын
Great reply, you obviously know your stuff. of all those things you've listed the only one of interest would be the slightly better solar improvements. Connect IQ, never used it. My HR tracks just fine as is, and I can change the watch face...Better hr monitor, better display, better solar.. are all iterative improvements. Anything additional that taxes the battery beyond tracking and HR i consider a waste. But thats just me, everyone likes different things, colours, taste, women :P Ultimate im celebrating it being a beast and I think thats the general sentiment here. Thanks for commenting, :)

I’m in a similar position, 50, pretty fit, 76kg, do a lot of running (120-150k per month) and strength training, but do have some excess belly fat. I’m on about 2300cals a day, 180g protein, but don’t take much notice of my carbs… I want to get into ketosis to burn the fat, before my next Hyrox in Glasgow, but need to fuel my workouts effectively. What are the macros on your diet?
@martin-boyce

Im not really into counting the macros, but I do ensure the protein. Currently fasting 20:4 eating between 4pm-8pm 4:00 a protein cookie, 4:30 portion of eggs(3) boiled/poached etc 7:00 Full dinner 7:45 protein yoghurt approx 1700-2000 cals. The fast ensures my Glycogen is depleted, The exercise burns the fat, The food keeps me alive lol Ive been feeling surprisingly nimble this last week, running sub 20 min 5km on the treadmill at 18 hours fasted It can be tough sometimes but I can already see myself changing and in 10 days 1.5kg off the scales. Its perceived as being extreme, but its not really and i'm not doing it forever. I wouldn't do this if I had an event in the next couple of months, of course you fuel heavy for those. I hope to be at Hyrox London in May....albeit a little leaner than I am now.
