Too bad about Moses he is a gorgeous golden child i remember your older videos with him. Are you able to move him from cage to cage with a rabbit in his mouth or something? I've used that method when a snake is difficult to safely get out before. It was a nice video seeing all those big girls moving around i love the sulawesi specialy
@drthik118 күн бұрын
I could try moving him while feeding but with my luck he'd let go of they prey and go for me lol

@@drthik1 😆that could happen i won't lie he seems good and healthy on the vid looks like you are managing but yeah moving to the cage above or below with food was my method dealing with a couple insane big snakes in the past, didn't have a problem just be sure they're holding on tight lol. That or a hide box in the cage you can shut closed with a hook or tongs. Male retics can be such a pain in the ass snake to keep people don't talk about it online so much...

@reptiles2948 it's a hide I made out of old pvc scraps from my 8ft cage builds. Made em to fit in and so I can slide back and forth if need be. I try to keep an eye on him and go in when he seems mellow. I'll try to do a vid of the hides I made some time soon

@@drthik1 i could send you some drawings for enrichment for him, I invented a lot of stuff! Did you see the pics of my girl's basking spot? Something like that but bigger and Moses would ❤️❤️❤️ it!!! Like a huge brick cave!
@RaeHenning-Stephenson19 күн бұрын
I wish I was there to help tame Moses. He reminds me of Mars. Mars just wanted to have his own stuff and do his own thing, and when I was handling him, he really understood I was helping him *go* places himself. I think the day he got lost was just an accident wherein he wanted to hunt fish for himself from the boat! The boat crashing didn't help!!! ...Moses seems as independent, however, as though he would understand and allow me to bring him somewhere... I think if I showed Moses one of the containers I invented for him, he would probably enter willingly without attacking me. (I have to show him though, he's being aggressively territorial with you!) Then he could complete his enrichment in a different location which feels neutral to him.
@drthik119 күн бұрын
Given the circumstances of what happened , you wouldn't be able to tame moses. He was acting out of pure instinct. Now if there weren't any other snakes involved or just females I'm pretty sure he'd be just fine
@RaeHenning-Stephenson19 күн бұрын
@@drthik1 I know, that's what I'm saying. Moses would also respond differently because I'm a female, the way Mars and Aries did. Aries was supposedly "scary" for the people who confiscated him to handle (men), but was a complete angel with me. Mars escaped into the swamp during a boating accident! (During a routine Kayaking outing.) Edit: i heard it took 3 huge men to lift Aries during his confiscation, and he was wrestling them and everything. However, with me, he actually HELPED me pick him up or went to his bath tub, dog crate (bed), tank, or wherever *himself* with little assistance.
@RaeHenning-Stephenson20 күн бұрын
Just wanted to say that you might want to point out that i am lacking in size for handling these snakes. But in dealing with them, i always use empathy and read their body language, and "communicate" my intentions to them, using different handling tools than hooks in order to pick them up. (Hooks can actually scare them and cause defensive behavior sometimes, depending on the snake in question, so i use a different system.)(Don't want to go into too much detail here because i don't want to convince someone to do something potentially dangerous!!) The retic i lost was only difficult to remove from my home because he considered it his TERRITORY, not because he was unsocialized. He was trained for over 9,000 hours!!! With me, he was completely cooperative and easy to carry! His body language and demeanor towards me was always peaceful, and he was allowed to free-roam in my bedroom!! He was getting close to 100 lbs., however he followed commands while being picked up and he had a way he could rest on me so i could lift him! He literally allowed me to help him complete his daily care and outings. He checked the mail with me often and liked to play in our backyard. It was really terrible what we went through and he's missed! Have another baby, and she is already the free-roaming master of my bedroom with an entire army of enrichment. She's really well- bred, calm, and very tame. She has more stuffed animals than me! She has a basking spot she can use whenever she wants which is part of a stone cave system with a grass potty underneath! Her water plate (yes, she drinks from a plate) is right next to it. My husband and i will be installing a climbing tree soon! She's spoiled and loves the indoor life with lil' trips outside for enrichment and all the playtime she wants!! She spends a lot of time hanging out in her blankets, which are gently folded over in her "kiddie pool," as she's not a big fan of water play -times, but she loves relaxing while hidden in a blanket or cooling herself on the plastic! She basks under her lamp then plays and hides! She goes on outings and has shown EVERY bit of tolerance towards human contact and environments, and is not a threat to anyone. Even though she's small now, as she grows i expect this same behavior towards being handled. She has a training regimen which is part of a care plan i create for snakes, which is a documented daily program for her care. She has been following it and becoming very socialized! (Over 3,000 hours!) She can hold the money to pay for her own food at the pet store, which she picks out for herself. Her care plan provides for her socialization, so she will be de-sensitized to human contact, noises, places, environments, items, and touch. She allows people to see and pet her. Holding the money and allowing another human to take the money from her coils while she's being held is a very big step for her and re-inforcing contact such as this helps her to become TAME. Seeing and picking out her own food makes it a multi- step process to feed her, and re- inforces calm behavior during feeding. She's very safe at meal times so far!! (Incidents involving meal times could be a topic which takes hours to cover!) ...So when she's as big as someone from your collection here, it's likely that she'll be as easy for me to work with or easier than my boy was!!! Not recommending that anyone else get a pet retic, but it's definitely a situation of a lot of hard work equates to reward with their behavior and ability to handle them! (But it literally takes hours daily of intense and very dangerous work!)
