I made a small fleet of locomotives for my HO scale Robertville Central Railroad that I call the Junction Valley heritage fleet. I used locomotives that closely resembled Junction Valley's locomotives (one sort of exception being the one I used to resemble #1177, I used a GP40 for that one because it was the closest thing I could come to), the only one I didn't do was their No.4 switcher, instead I've done a fictional Junction Valley 2-6-0 steam locomotive that I numbered #8216 (82 being the year Junction Valley opened to the public and 16 being the year they closed down), I did that one because I always wanted to see what a Junction Valley steam locomotive would've looked like, I've even done a few pieces of rolling stock too. I'll be doing a video on that one of these days

@ this steam engine uses electricity. In the future I might build a mini one to power whatever I need it to
@paulbuswell6566Ай бұрын
By setting your multimeter to amps, you are effectively short circuiting the output. As pointed out in another comment, you need to have an adjustable load, so that you can measure current and amps, to calculate wattage.
@BardsbrothersrailroadАй бұрын
@@paulbuswell6566 are you talking about using a potentiometer or something?
@swapnilkumar9363Ай бұрын
You also need an adjustable load to find the peak power of this generator as well as the optimal rpm of steam engine.
@BardsbrothersrailroadАй бұрын
The steam engine was running at its max speed. I’ll do some digging on the generator. Thanks for the input!
@RC-nq7mgАй бұрын
@@Bardsbrothersrailroadyou can set something up with a series of small incandescent lamps that you can switch in and out to vary the load or use it to power a motor with a flywheel that you can apply a brake to to increase load. Measure voltage and amps to find peak power. What you had there is a nearly dead short, you will likely find with a more reasonable load that you produce more current at a reasonable voltage.
@BardsbrothersrailroadАй бұрын
@RC-nq7mg gotcha! Well thank you!

NICE! Cool setup. Neat hack for you, since all car chargers are made to run off 12-15v (usually a better range than that irl) any decent car charger you want to dissect, will work just fine. Immediate 12v to 5v regulation AND you get a free USB port or whatever is already on the charger. Simultaneously you can just order the same kind of board from Amazn/eby with whatever kind of port on it you want. Most should have a built-in capacitor but you may want to beef that one up with a separate board.
