You also need an adjustable load to find the peak power of this generator as well as the optimal rpm of steam engine.

The steam engine was running at its max speed. I’ll do some digging on the generator. Thanks for the input!

@@Bardsbrothersrailroadyou can set something up with a series of small incandescent lamps that you can switch in and out to vary the load or use it to power a motor with a flywheel that you can apply a brake to to increase load. Measure voltage and amps to find peak power. What you had there is a nearly dead short, you will likely find with a more reasonable load that you produce more current at a reasonable voltage.
@BardsbrothersrailroadАй бұрын
@RC-nq7mg gotcha! Well thank you!

By setting your multimeter to amps, you are effectively short circuiting the output. As pointed out in another comment, you need to have an adjustable load, so that you can measure current and amps, to calculate wattage.

@@paulbuswell6566 are you talking about using a potentiometer or something?

So the steam engine uses electricity to power it. The first and second laws of thermodynamics takes place pretty quickly. It would be cool though
@markdi2Ай бұрын
Putting the meter in amp mode you are basically shorting the generator out
@BardsbrothersrailroadАй бұрын
Yeah I might have to find out a better way to test amps

@Bardsbrothersrailroad still a pretty cool looking little generator I have an old wilesco steam engine that runs on these white square tablets I have not run it in years
@markdi2Ай бұрын
@Bardsbrothersrailroad there is a shunt inside of the meter that is a known low resistance value all the meter does is read the voltage across the shunt to calculate current I would use incandescent bulbs as a load
@BardsbrothersrailroadАй бұрын
@@markdi2 thank you! I’ll have to do that

Beautiful! I was planning to buy this. But now I have seen it working, the thrill is gone. So thanks, I will not buy it. And save some money!

Idk I think it's cooler now that I've seen it definitely going to get one I want to see if it will slowly charge a bank of car batteries for use with an Xbox just need to find a viable fuel source

@ this steam engine uses electricity. In the future I might build a mini one to power whatever I need it to
