Wlad, the Glenmo 10 YO is one of the first SMSW's I tried and it really drew me into malts. I've found this to be a reliable, good quality, easy-drinking dram. For the new 12 YO, you're finding those extra two years have made a difference. But I'm not sure I want more sweetness: maybe at 46% it would have some strength to cut through the wood sugars a bit? In any case, when the 12YO hits my market no doubt I'll repeat your experiment. Cheers!
@whiskymaltcontentreviews3 ай бұрын
Thanks for comment. Whisky has been diluted down just before bottling , so this 2 years make a definite influence on spirit. It is sweeter with no doubt. Share your experience when got 12 yo . Cheers

In the hot world of 'Peated Whisky' the Benromach Peat Smoke is seriously underrated. I think it's excellent and excellent value.

I'm so glad you reviewed this bottle. I'm a long term Benromach fan and I really love any cask strength stuff they do. I just got a bottle of the Polish Oak - Cask 72; 263 bottles. It was also distilled in 21/11/11 and bottled 31/10/22. We find these bottles in smaller, bricks and mortar, web sites. Over the years I've purchased a lot of excellent Benromach single casks from exclusive retailer offerings. Milroy's of London have, as I write, one bottle left of 'Londoner's Bartenders Edition (201 bottles), which is a first fill sherry hogshead at 59%. I'll follow do a follow comment on the Polish cask when I open my bottle. Cheers. WT

Yes, Wlad, many malt enthusiasts love the Signatory Edradour 10. The one I've tried is from 2016 and it was kind of ‘clean yet dirty’. I believe some batches are full-on dirty with Sherried goodness. I have an unopened 2020 bottling: we'll see what that is like. I also love the 12 YO ‘Dougie MacLean’s Caledonia Selection’ for its lively oakiness.
@whiskymaltcontentreviews5 ай бұрын
Thanks for comment. There is lots of differents between all this single cask edra. One can me more dirty than others. Love them all😁. Cheers Matey

Hey, Wlad! Nice review. I also like the Edradour whisky very much for its dense and "dirty" character which takes the heavy cask influence without getting bulldozed by it. So far I have tasted the 10 yo 46% from Signatory Vintage, 12 yo Caledonia and 10 yo CS from ex-bourbon barrels. So far I liked the Caledonia the best, but I have some bottles in the stash waiting their turn to be tasted so there is a strong possibility for a new favorite to rise. Cheers and keep them videos coming !

Nice one, Wlad. I also rate the Balblair 12 YO highly. I found it to be zingy yet buttery, with stewed apples, peaches and lemon curd. It's Highland malt whisky done very well. I have the 15 YO as well, not opened yet. Cheers.

Thanks for comment and Subscribing. Not all whisky from Speyside are that easy constructed as it seems to be. There is some nice and more complex whisky’s over there and the glen moray 18 is definitely one of those. Cheers

Definitely not the same. Recently purchased the new one, and probably won't buy it again. Really liked the old version. The nee version is basic and boring.

Just bought it! Lovely stuff ! How do you compare it with 10 and with others from Contrast series ?
@whiskymaltcontentreviews7 ай бұрын
Thanks for comment. It’s quite difficult to compare it to any other Benromach to be honest. It’s most smoky of the whisky’s you have mentioned. And it’s bourbon only casks which is not usual for this Benromach. Cheers

The new version is nothing like this version. Its sad but Glen scotia were one of my favourite distilleries, they have been sold and the victoriana in the new bottles is nothing like the first 4 batches. The bottle in this vid is the stuff I loved. Unfortunately its gone now. Also their xmas releases have gone up in price and down in quality. GS need to turn things around. The 15 and the double cask are still good, but not as good as it was!
@whiskymaltcontentreviews7 ай бұрын
Thanks for comment. I do like Campbeltown Festival releases though. Looks like Glen Scotia going on quantity not quality. Hopefully they will change it in some point. Cheers Mate

Glen Scotia wasnt sold since 2014. The new Packaging was just a Rebranding without any Change of the Owner (which is since 2014 Loch Lomond Group) .😅 Which X-mas Bottlings do u mean? I only know the Campeltown Malt Festival Releases.😅

This won whisky of the day during my 2023 Whisky tasting day. It beat 11 other whisky's on the day. Including some big hitters. The 6 regions and one peated & one unpeated from each region. And the peatheads all put this in their top 2 of the day.

I have no idea why they changed the formula but why the heck do they do this to the consumer?!?! The older version is fantastic and I truly enjoy it. The new is similar but harsher. I do not know why Tallisker chose to change formula but I am very disappointed. I have 2 backup bottles of the older version and I'm afraid that these bottles are going to be hard to find.
@whiskymaltcontentreviews10 ай бұрын
I think all these changes have been made due to the shortage of aged whisky because most of it going to JW blends

Wlad, you are enticing me towards this 18 YO! The only problem is: it would cost me $200+ Australian dollars. 75 quid should equate to $142... but then there's our high booze taxes. So the value proposition isn't great here, and yet those worktubs and dunnage warehouses are definitely to my liking. All the best for 2024.
@McIntyresMalts10 ай бұрын
The value prop is better than just about any other sherried 18 year old here is Australia, if you consider a Glendronach 18 is $270+ and Tamdhu 18 is going to push $250, and then Macallan.....
@hordeum-vulgare10 ай бұрын
@@McIntyresMalts Wade, you might have convinced me. A key plus for the Speyburn is that it is said to have a distinctive character, like Wlad says. That's important: I'm not looking for a bunch of cookie-cutter Scotch single malts.
@McIntyresMalts10 ай бұрын

I tasted the old bottling, and thought the reviews of the new one did not match my notes at all. This video goes to prove my findings bang on. The nosing of old one is even close to Auchentoshan American Oak, which is for my taste a very pleasant light fruity whisky. You've earned a subscriber with one single video :)
