Another tip When cutting with blade horizontal (like when felling a trunk to get a level stump), there can be a lot of weight on the chain. So it can get very hot and stretched. Use felling wedges to take weight off the blade. Before realizing this I stretched a brand new blade cutting one tree, lubrication was not the issue.

That is a very good point as well. Thanks.

Sudden chain lengthening can be caused by a worn drive sprocket. When that goes, the radius shrinks 3mm, lengthening the chain 10mm. I've noticed my bar getting hot recently, and it's from the slot widening from brutal use, maybe cutting stumps and charcoal. They used to roll my bar, to close the slot, but people probably get new china bars, nowadays. Once you get a load of side to side waggle in the chain, the friction goes up, and it can be difficult getting it to cut straight sometimes. Another reason chains can stretch, is cheap shite china chains. I got one that required re-tentioning every 10 minutes. Eventually, it lost a rivet. I also use car oil, which probably doesn't help. I'm kind of narked with the way the ebay chains work, so I'm going to buy new genuine everything. The stihl 231 is all plastic, and it's not looking real good.
@stickyssituation2 ай бұрын
I think my sprocket is definitely worn. I have a lot more side to side movement than I like to see. I'm sure that is another good reason my chain seems longer.

I measure by hanging both chains on a horizontal nail in identical position and line up teeth comparing to a new chain, shows difference quite clearly and x2 for total length. Mine has loosened off by total of 7mm. To be honest I never even considered deliberately running the saw without chain oil, it happened by accident a few weeks ago first time in 30 years the filler lid managed to come loose and fall out and didn’t notice. Just running saw dry for 10 minutes loosened chain a lot, it was hanging clear of the bar when I noticed, so I’d say running it without oil would ruin the chain pretty rapidly, which is probably why yours managed to stretch an inch. I have never had a chain stretch so much it can’t be tensioned anymore so your chain links and probably screwed and maybe in danger of snapping under load..v dangerous if the broken chain whips round.. Also increases wear on drive sprocket (which also needs replacing about every 4 chains max by the way, I wasn’t aware of that for quite a few years) strains tightener thread, damages bar, wears saw transmission etc.
@stickyssituation3 ай бұрын
I learned a lot about what not to do with my chainsaw through this video. I have since kept my oil levels up and rested the saw when it starts heating up. I never heard about switching out the sprocket, but mine probably needs to be changed after that abuse.
@davidgriffiths76963 ай бұрын
@@stickyssituation yes, you will see oval shaped holes on circumference if more than about 3 mm long and half a mm deep approx the sprocket is worn. The circumference is flat on a new sprocket and they’re about 12 euro each. I don’t have issues with over heating as long as chain is sharp and cutting like a knife through butter. Have been working on my land for 25 years, doing a major thinning operation at the moment to favour understory trees. Enjoy…can’t beat the land.

I have the same machine. I have replaced so many hoses!. Recently one of the hoses to the drive motor went out. I ended up draining the motor oil, diesel fuel, and the hydraulic fluid, took out the battery and laid the machine on its side. Changed all 6 hoses going to the drives and the 2 going to the push blade. It was expensive but nice to know i wont have to do it again. Thanks for sharing the video.

That's a good idea. I might have to try that when I take out the center hydraulic main cylinder to replace the seals in that. It seems like every time I fix a hose another springs a leak.

It’s fairly common to have filters missing on farm equipment. Not saying anything bad about farmers but sometimes they do what they have to do. I’ve had real issues with the power steering fluid leaking into the engine oil, I replaced the shaft seal twice and finally replaced the pump on my 580ck.

Destroyed the house. No steel structure supporting the weight where the block was removed. This is terrible. You shouldn't be receiving money for destroying that house. That was not a professional job. This home has been destroyed.l because you have made it structurally unstable. The weight from above on that window frame is too heavy of a load. From the sides as well, houses shift. You removed rebarb, the corner is no longer supporting weight properly. This is not done properly. You ruined this house. You do not know what you are doing. This is really bad. Someone paid you, they trusted you.

I was just thinking that there is no steel structural support. Such a bad idea, the weight above and around that window is painfully unstable now. This should be criminal, you know someone will buy this home. After this flip the buyer will spend an unforeseen expense. That could result in a homeless situation. Most people do not have that kind of money to save their new home. Just terrible. Blows my mind.

You know what would be cool? A Secret spot or cache in the wall that only you and the people you love know about, basically a fireproof safe spot with thumb drives of important documents and photographs, perhaps genealogical information, answers to questions that many years from now you may not be there to answer but you left behind with love, if your great grandparents left one behind in something they built you know you would definitely find it and check it out! It is up to you what you put in it, but I will tell you that a cheap pocketknife and a broken button are not much in the way of value unless they were great grandpas, then they are priceless beyond compare. This secret spot in the wall might be used for many generations, but what it really contains is love and not until you are very old do you realize it was the most important valuable thing in life, because the real stuff has no expiration date and never loses value, it truly is the one eternal gift of humanity.
