Phil i would like to thank you for repairing my black Egg! you did an amazing job on what was a nasty gate dent, not only that you also got rid of the car park damage from a few years back where someone got a tad to close and scraped along the side of the car leaving a nice 20 to 30 CM long dent just a tad closer to back of the car from the gate damage

You ever try canned air to cool off a panel?
@QBDentFree10 ай бұрын
Canned air will get very expensive - remember we're trying to cool the panel, not just the glue. Spraying cold air directly on the glue will make it brittle, but if we can cool the whole area, the glue can keep a consistent temperature throughout
@michaelarens204610 ай бұрын
@@QBDentFree yeah it works in a pinch and those super hot days. Yeah I know makes the glue brittle if you could spray it directly on it.

How can you tell a dent is stretched by looking at it? What are the signs were looking for
@QBDentFree Жыл бұрын
That's a great question, and a tricky one to answer! Experience plays a big role - there's something about the size/depth ratio of the dent that stands out, but I'm not sure I could put it into words. In this case there's almost a secondary dent, or "dent within a dent". If you picture a golf ball hitting a panel, there is often a sharp golf ball sized dent, with a shallower dent around it. In that case, the dent in the middle is where the stretched metal is

Great job on that very difficult repair. What QuickJack model do you use? Does it work with most vehicles that you get into the shop? Thanks! Kevin
@QBDentFree Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! The QuickJacks are the 7000lbs model. they've worked on every car I've tried them on, including low Porches etc - they would run out of length on some cars though, I'm sure. My biggest issue is that they are very very heavy to be dragging around too often, so they aren't used as often as they could be. I still reach for the trolley jack & stands just as often as the QuickJacks
@kevinborden2477 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the info. I was wondering about them being heavy to move around.

I had auto body repair in high school in the 70s. We were taught that the metal was stretched and what you just did wasn’t possible without shrinking the damaged metal. I even did lead fill. What you just showed blew my mind.
@QBDentFree Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! I can see both sides of the argument that dented metal is always stretched to some degree, and the level of "stretch" is certainly a major factor in the difficulty of a repair. There's a very very important distinction though in recognising the difference between stretched metal and displaced metal - there was a lot of displaced metal in this repair, but only a small degree if stretch in my opinion
