I had auto body repair in high school in the 70s. We were taught that the metal was stretched and what you just did wasn’t possible without shrinking the damaged metal. I even did lead fill. What you just showed blew my mind.

Thanks for the feedback! I can see both sides of the argument that dented metal is always stretched to some degree, and the level of "stretch" is certainly a major factor in the difficulty of a repair. There's a very very important distinction though in recognising the difference between stretched metal and displaced metal - there was a lot of displaced metal in this repair, but only a small degree if stretch in my opinion
