Well, SOB! I was on the ultimate low budget as I've always been, scored one of these and realize now for $60 more, I would have gotten the midi controller/footswitch and the LED backlighting. I guess I bought a series 1.

For a while there were audio demos and I’m so certain a video of either the first or second being demonstrated by vai but I cannot find it anywhere on KZbin. He even had presets he used and the coolest part was it showed different eq settings for different volumes as tube amps will respond differently depending on how they are being pushed.

A man makes Passion and Warfare, one of the best album's and imo the pinnicle of guitar tone to ever grace a human ear. Then tries to convince everyone this shit show of an amp is worthy of his playing. Come on Steve your better than this.
I have a Carvin Nomad that I use on small venue jazz gigs. It's perfect.

I bought a Belaire about 25 years ago. I have a '73 Fender Dual Showman, and the Carvin can easily match the cleans on the Fender. When I switch to the gain side, with the soak knob set to "3", no pedals, it is pure Rock N Roll heaven ESPECIALLY with a P90

Why does the one legacy II have the power switch toward the left and on the other Legacy II it’s to the right???

Was Steve playing strictly through the Legacy 3 with no additional pedals or the Fractal that sits directly below it. Amazing sound and like the three buttons for different levels of gain

When I plug into this I only use channel one and two, channel 3 sound overly compressed and my picking technique is somehow masked now it sounds vaiish but it's not for me

I see so many guitar amps these days and pedals out there claiming to be amazing and I have to say my Legacy 3 sounds just as good if not better than pretty much all of them once it's warmed up and rocking, it's a monster still.

Carvin amps were so underrated. My X100b is still going strong. Bought it new new in 1988 and it still sounds great. Real smooth overdrive and warm clean channels.

The newer ones come with Celestion speakers and digital reverb I believe but my older one from the 90s is Carvin GT12 12" 8-ohm speakers and spring reverb.

He's such a fascinating dude. The impression I get was he was shredding LONG before he actually had the equipment to make it sound good. lmao Like, if you heard him talking about equipment, the way he's so excited about little things like wattage, you'd think he was a complete newbie to music in general.... And then he just casually shreds through a lick most people couldn't conceive of, as if it's just breathing. lol

Been using Carvin Vintage amps for thirty years and love them to bits still. They always get complimentary comments from those who know good tone.
@gino32863 жыл бұрын
The tones are ALL really amazing. I wonder how much of an impact on the overall sound the preamp+effects section has compared to the power amp section. It would be interesting to add a preamp out and check the resulting sound with a high power PA solid state power amp that could be a very handy option for big concerts (some units output thousands of Watts ). I still think that the preamp section makes the sound. But i could be very wrong of course. Thank you very much for the excellent video. Kind regards, gino

Check out the Carvin Legacy Drive. It’s actually the preamp in a pedal form. I use the Helix version (which only has the high gain channel) and I got the best tone I’ve ever had. You can use the pedal into an amp, a P.A. or even direct for recording. It also has a cab simulator, though I’m not sure how good that is since it was made a few years ago. Carvin doesn’t make it anymore but you’ll find them used online. Or you can have a great version in Helix which is way cheaper again, only the high gain channel though. However, if you dial down the gain you’ll get a nice smooth overdrive.

@@michaelsnydermusic hi thank you very much indeed for your kind and very valuable advice As I said above I have a feeling that the tone of a sound is set mostly at preamp level I wonder if a wall of Marshall tube amps could be replaced by a basic pa amp driven by the right tube preamp I tend to think so A 2 rack unit pa amp can provide more than 500 W on 4 ohm speakers
@michaelsnydermusic2 жыл бұрын
@@gino3286 it’s close. That is where the tone stack is. In helix you can actually separate the preamp. While the intention there is to run a preamp into another amp you can simply go directly into a cab. However, there’s a lot of oomph missing. I’m not sure how else to describe it. I bet there are great KZbin videos on this subject.
@gino32862 жыл бұрын
@@michaelsnydermusic thank you very much again It's a very fascinating topic I will try some tests The pa amps are so convenient that deserve some attention also for live music playback Tube and transistors can live together nicely Kind regards gino
