Okay friends, so I tried the 'Great Value Microwave Pepperoni Pizza' today and cooked it in the oven. It was better than Jack's I think and better than Totino's but cheaper per calorie also. Jack's did have a better crust texture and I think if I grilled a Jack's that would be something better too but I haven't tried grilling one.

I am a native Detroiter and found this movie an excellent representation of factory life for those who moved North for a better life. Some of the references were quite familiar to me: Playing the numbers, union activities and sadly racial and cultural name-calling throughout the movie. I am an African American whose Southern ancestors moved up North and lived a respectable middle class lifestyle. My grandparents and parents were homeowners and didn't experience the same hardships of Jane Fond's character. However, some of the references and historic events brought back memories for me. Thanks for your review. And the character who realized Gertie's woodcrafting talent was the school art teacher, not the principal.
@michaelwilsonbarber
@michaelwilsonbarber 14 күн бұрын
Hi Carole, I know you just commented here but I was so excited to see your post I wanted to reply right away. I thank you so much for your thoughts and comments, very insightful and helpful. I think I shared in my video, but this movie really made an impression on me when I was a teenager and my Mother who I think really connected with Gertie. I connect also with Gertie and I see where Levon's character is also coming from. Anyway, I thought it was the principal, didn't know it was the art teacher. I cried so much last time I watched it, I just can't bring myself to do it again anytime soon but I have it in my collection. I just read on Wikipedia that Jane Fonda won an Emmy for her performance and the Director won an award as well. It was based on a 1954 novel by the same name, so I assume the author (Harriet Arnow) must have lived some of this story. It sounds good that your Grandparents were homeowners, as it's depicted in this film, how difficult it must have been to live in those terrible apartment/shot gun homes. Sorry for a long reply. Had you seen this movie back in the 80s or did you find it somehow through my review, just curious.

Thanks for your reply Michael. Having lost my 17 year old son in a car accident some 27 years ago, I know the pain of losing a child firsthand and the reactions that you and others would give when the youngest child in this movie was tragically killed. Never ever an easy scene to see in a movie and certainly to experience in reality. I just watched the movie last night on Amazon Prime and that’s why I could give details about the art teacher. Keep up the great work with movie reviews!

When the daughter is killed by the train accident, I had to turn it off and try to finish the next day. It's so tragic. As I shared however, there is redemption in this movie and story, which is part of the reason I like it, there's both tragedy and triumph. There's commitment, covenant, resilience, and growth even with adversity and sin.

This is one of my go to frozen pizza's. I usually can catch them on sale for 5.99 or 6.99 here in Chicago. At that price it's comparable to the more budget ones. It's the only pizza I think it doesn't need any extra cheese.
@michaelwilsonbarber
@michaelwilsonbarber 14 күн бұрын
Yeah, the cheese is laid on there pretty good! If you happened to watch the whole video, even at 7$ a pizza, the price per calorie is cheaper than Tombstone and Red Baron. The pizza comes out of the box around a whopping 2 lbs! (I weighed it, I think slightly over 2 pounds), so you are getting more food for your money than a thinner Red Baron/Tombstone. All the better if you do get it on sale, even better value then and it is very good I think for a frozen pizza.

I do apologize I did not look at my notes better before I did the first part of the review. At .38 cents per calorie, the Jack's is MORE expensive than Tony's, Red Baron, Tombstone, and even Home Run Inn pizza. So, this Jack's thin pizza may seem less expensive but per caloric value is actually more expensive and tastes not as good as those others. The pepperoni and marinara are okay in flavor but not better than the over average pizzas available at local stores.
