Glenn, appreciate you pulling the curtain back and showing the average guy how things work behind the scenes with some of these bait companies. I thought you did it in a very fair and balanced way, which is a hard line to walk Kind of a bizarre way to handle getting products out to customers and handling “influencers”. Wonder how many other companies play games like that
@54orbust4 сағат бұрын
I can say with some degree of certainty that 98% of companies don't work like that. The big, cornerstone companies are 100% not like that, they don't have time for 'games' I've had some issues with smaller builders that value their baits very highly ($$$) and don't understand our time to produce an underwater video also takes time and $$$. But for the most part, the industry is great, but a few bad apples can really drag it down.

Thanks Adam, we went into this with the intent on being professional and honest. We've made mistakes and will continue to do so, but our mission statement has always been about the viewers and offering them an honest, down to earth look at musky fishing. This industry and community is not all unicorns and rainbows. These fish are hard enough to catch, we don't have energy to fight these drama battles. On to brighter pastures for 54

Ok, going to try to be diplomatic here, but all involved in this silliness should be EMBARRASSED. It's just a fish folks! And yes, this blade bait is EASILY reproduced by any decent DIYer with a couple of pairs of pliers. Me? I'll just keep casting away hoping to fool the most frustrating, and beautiful, fish that swims in fresh water. Really looking forward to 2025 because 2024 was TOUGH going! Good luck out there this year guys and gals!

It is embarrassing, that some of the top companies in musky fishing act like this. As pro staff members our job is to 'promote' the product, thus the promote staff title. It's odd that our success lead to copycat style baits and that was a factor in all this. We'll move on, they'll move on. Thanks for watching.

I'm sorry to hear about this Glen. For you to make this video, which must have been hard for you, the falling out must have really bothered you. Life is full of surprises, some good some sad. I hope you will persevere and look at this situation as just a bump in the road of life and continue to make your 54 or Bust videos with Dave, Kyla and your kids. Good luck to you and try to have a good winter and hope to see you out on the lakes next summer.
@54orbustКүн бұрын
Thanks Steve, it was a tough one, we put a lot of energy into the Dadson relationship to have it end that way. But with all things in life, you adapt and move on. I'll be fishing next year and probably see you at the same spot or same resort again. This will never stop us. Thanks for watching!

As someone who has been building bucktails for awhile now, I never understood the hype behind it. Yes they are quality baits with good components, but there is nothing unique about them. When I say unique I mean there are no components that only they can use. There are truly unique components out there like the square changeable clevis from angling revolution, the single piece clevis from musky frenzy, or the unique solid blades like the kraemer revo. Anything besides those can be replicated by anyone who knows how to build baits. I know they make good baits but the price and exclusivity doesn’t make sense to me when they are built with completely standard parts. No hate to dadson, but if I’m going to spend money on something I want it to go to guys like Josh with angling revolution where they are actually trying to make something unique and get it into as many hands as possible.
@54orbustКүн бұрын
I agree with you on almost all of that. No matter what has become of the relationship I had with Johnny, there is something special about a hand built and hand tuned bait from Johnny. It has a quality that an out of the box bait fail to replicate. That being said, its easy to tune as well and I built a really cool bucktail using the Revolution clevis system. I called it "The One with no Name" lol

Tough video to make I’m sure Glenn. Unfortunate but it happens. I appreciate your balance in your comments and your offer to tell the other side of the story. Happy to have one of those BWNNs. That said I’m sure there are plenty of high quality blade builders that would love to collaborate with you to develop the next best blade endorsed by 54 or Bust.
@54orbustКүн бұрын
I could have easily left this behind me. But we helped create the hype, we needed to address what happened to it. To the best of my knowledge the BWNN no longer exists inside the IC, I'm guessing it will be hard to use a name that I created. Johnny deserves a lot of credit for bait designs, it wasn't all bad. It just ended bad. If this, me being honest about my dealings in the industry, ends up being the end of 54 or Bust, I'll live with that. We did what we did with a level of integrity and honesty. And for the record, it isn't about quickly jumping to the next builder for free stuff. It's about open relationships with great companies that we support and that feel the desire to support us. The musky community is full of amazing companies and we are so fortunate to work with so many of them. I'll continue to provide as much value to them as we possibly can. Throw your BWNN on a shelf...
@rodbelding9523Күн бұрын
I used to follow Dadson and they always gave me the vibe that they think they're an exclusive club or something, and this just kind of confirms that they think that.
@54orbustКүн бұрын
I've been publicly pushing for a more open musky community and became disenchanted with the exclusive aspects of the Dadson group. Great baits are not enough in today's world. The average angler looks up to these companies to be role models within the industry.

Sadly, this is all to common. I'm at a point where it doesn't matter to me, the truth is more important than the baits. But for younger anglers, trying to make a living in this industry, these are treacherous waters to navigate.
@erinjohnson21552 күн бұрын
I applaud the stones it took to tell what happened. It’s too bad , baits like this should be enjoyed by all and not a select few. Always great content and looking forward to another edition of 54orbust❤
@54orbustКүн бұрын
Appreciate that, but the truth is easy to tell. I appreciate the Dadson model of scarcity, but I agree some baits are meant to be fished.
@James_vasmillionthevile2 күн бұрын
It’s like the fable of Icarus. It’s hard to hear that this is where 54 or Bust and Dadson ended up. As I don’t know the Dadson’, I would be lying if I said I didn’t want a Blade with No Name. But, I’m not one to do anything for it. The Muskies play enough games in my head.. LOL. The main issue with private clubs is after the founders are gone, what they created usually goes away. The Musky community is worse for it. I think the Dadson’s brand could have gone the way of Mepps or Bucher. Brands that will be with us for a very long time. I would love to hear any bait maker who wouldn’t want the success of Mepps. Just my thoughts 😎
@54orbustКүн бұрын
I'll give you a bait next year to try that is what the Blade with No Name could have become. At the end of the day, they are just tools. I understand the private clubs, for the most part it's too keep the trolls out and for the founders to be worshipped. There has to be a balance, we have to make musky fishing more inclusive and less exclusive. Young anglers are already finding it tough enough, they see stuff like this, that they'll never be part of and it drives them away.
@thelonesomefisherman74252 күн бұрын
I don't get all the drama and egos. It's a wire shaft with some beads, a weight, hooks, clevis, some Christmas tinsel, and a couple of spinning blades. Heck, I have thought up different designs for bucktail lures with additional blades. It's not like we're talking about world peace or nuclear fusion energy or a cure for cancer. It's a fishing lure. People need to get over themselves. Unfortunately, I have seen this happen many times in the muskie industry. 😢

Musky fishing is tough enough as it is. To go onto a legendary body of water like Eagle, which is absolutely enormous in size, without a guide is not setting yourself up for success in my opinion. For me, I get very little time to spend with my boys as they are both nearly grown so I look forward to going up to Canada every year more than I can put into words. Some years we absolutely slay the fish, some years are incredibly tough. That said, the guides that we have been lucky enough to fish with have been fantastic. They are just as good of teachers as they are fisherman. Also, if you want to learn a body of water in the most efficient way possible, get with pro guides who know these lakes inside and out. You will save yourself so much time and frustration.
@54orbust16 күн бұрын
Well said, a good guide is worth way more than the $$$ paid. You're paying for his knowledge, his passion and his understanding of the waters. Most will learn more in a single day from a guide than a whole week of fishing alone. Thanks for watching!
