@@burygardeners i improvised a solution at least! If anyone does the same as me: i cut out a thin strip of an accenting color (i would've done the same wallpaper, but i couldn't get the pattern to align), folded it into the corner, and glued it in to hide those spots that were peeking out. using a marker of the same color of the paper on the cut edge helps to make it look a lot more natural.

So sorry, years ago so no idea of actual colour. It will most likely have been a pot of Valspar. They have something like over a thousand colours, from B and Q. I used to buy their sample pots which were under three pounds and you got a generous tin, especially for one twelfth use. For this project I then mixed in a little florists sand to give it texture so it looked like stone frames.

Hello 👋 Your house is looking great! I have one, and gosh, they're soooo big! Mine doesn't have the basement, as it's large enough, lol. I've almost finished the house, though the dormas are proving a little fiddly at the moment! Other than that I've really enjoyed working on it. I do have a "Manor" Georgian House which I bought sixteen years ago from a friend, ( lit, decorated and painted) I've added lots of accessories over the years and it's my pride and joy 😊. Hi, are you using household emulsion for your paint-work please? Is it just 'white' or one of the 'colour whites'? thank you.
@burygardeners
@burygardeners 2 жыл бұрын
Assuming you are in the UK I go to B & Q and buy from the Valspar counter. They mix small samples of paint for about two pounds - haven't bought any in ages so don't know the current price. It is excellent quality paint. There are thousands of colours to choose from and they will colour match anything you take in that you want matched. The size is 263ml so plenty for any mini project. I use matt for all surfaces except wood. All my trims and doors are painted using white silk emulsion; it gives a slight sheen so it looks like real life wood paint. So, basically any sample pot of emulsion will do if you see a colour you like in another brand but I would definitely stick to silk emulsion for the woodwork and I have only found Valspar where I can get a small sample of that.

What if you remove the bottom of the door opening only, instead of cutting ACROSS horizontally to remove the entire wooden bar, you cut vertically down in line with the door frame, on the opening side, and maybe just past where the pin is on the hinged side? Then the hinge might still work. And the bottom of the door would have a gap but if you want it to open over carpet that might be desirable. I hadn't thought about the dolls needing to step over that floor bar before, lol, if that was in a real house people would be tripping all the time, I know I would

Hi I'm interested in seeing the process of wallpapering because I just got a new dollhouse last week. I bought myself the Kidcraft Majestic Mansion dollhouse and it's decor is currently suited for small children, not an adult. Today, I was given 5 different Wallpaper Books from Sherman and Williams Paint store. Apparently once a month, they go through and get rid of their discontinued wallpaper sample books. I have enough wallpaper samples to redo about 50 dollhouses. Anyway. I wasn't sure if I should glue it in permanently or use double sided tape to adhere it to the walls. Also, do I need to be concerned about the scale of the pattern on the wallpaper? I wanted to use a floral rose patterned wallpaper in the patio room, but the roses are very large. Larger than the doll's heads that are going to be "living" in the dollhouse. It's for my Rainbow High dolls. Thanks.

I am afraid I don’t have a definitive answer to your two questions, they are really down to personal choice. If you feel you might want to remove the paper some time and want a temporary fix I think I would cut thin card to fit the space and paper that and then attach that to the wall with double sided tape. I think it would give a better finish. I treat all my projects as real life just in a smaller scale so everything for me is done just as it would be in my own home…so my wallpapering is pretty permanent and if much further down the line I wanted to repaper….never have so far ….. I would paper over or strip the walls just as I would do full scale. As for the scale of the pattern on the wallpaper ….. again I am very fussy that it is realistic. That said, currently in real world their are some feature walls being done with huge floral and other scaled patterns, so if you wanted a real modern statement piece then go for it. Otherwise I would use your dolls to give you an idea of how real or otherwise something looks. I think the first major decision is whether to create a dolls house where you can have a to. If flexibility and creativity or a scale model of a home where things need to be precise. Happy hobbying whichever route you take.

Excellent idea for varying the mortar. I have been using a stencil and a mixture of joint compound, paint and PVA to do the bricks but the mortar takes a bit of painting and pre preparing the surface like this looks great. I will give this a try and then all I will have to Do, whilst dry brushing the bricks for variety is add Heather Tracy's ground coriander and glue, moss mix (very convincing lol) to the end product. @burygardeners
@burygardeners 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Lesley, I am afraid I don’t have a definitive answer for you. I have used the bricks on almost every project...Dalton House is my sixth. Like you I do a dry build and dismantle and then paint all surfaces to seal the MDF, then I build the house except for the front opening doors and the part of the roof which opens. I don't put the bricks on the sides or back as I regard those not seen. I paint the sides an exact match to the bricks. So, yes, I do put the bricks on the front before it gets attached to the house and put the tiles in the roof flap before that gets attached. I can therefore do them flat on the table. I wouldn't want to work on either in the vertical position so.... if you are wanting bricks or tiles on any surfaces other than the front 'doors' and roof flap I think I would put them on the pieces before building. As I said I haven't had to do this so not sure if it would raise a problem of any sort though I can't imagine what. Many folks decorate and do flooring and all sorts in the pre build state so they can work flat on the table. My thoughts on that is only the very talented ones seem to do this really successfully and it takes heaps of planning and forethought. I like my house to be an established house that just needs finishing....the same as real life. 😂. Hope this helps. If you go to the blog and take a look at posts in April 2016 that's where I talk about the bricks a lot, though they do pop up now and then in other places. You can click on 'the build' link in the left hand column and skip through those posts if you want more. Email me anytime if I can help. [email protected]. If you are in the UK I buy a tube of wallpaper border adhesive from B and Q and of the makes will do but their own brand...think it is called Diall, in yellow and white tube is cheap and excellent. It is a PVA glue but is a perfect silky glue, not too wet not too sticky thick, so goes on really easily. i am sure wherever you are you can find a border adhesive at a hardware store or on line maybe? Wallpapering success all depends on the actual paper. This is one time where paying more does seem to matter. I have had a couple of cheap ones that have stretched and bubbled and done all sorts to me but I find decent quality papers go on really nicely, like this one here did.

You could file down the entire doorframe where you accidentally cut for the hinges, and have a somewhat "smaller" frame. The frame seems mighty thick for me, like a front door doorframe, whereas the frames inside aren't as thick. Just a thought. Though I'm a bit late to the party LOL... Enjoyed your video. I got a chuckle about the tiny screw's... I take apart watches and electronics, so I've got much smaller screw's than those. (The screw's for the door are about the same size as cell phone screw's.) Watch screw's vary but are usually a little smaller than half that, and then continue to go down in size... Could you imagine having to make a dollhouse small enough for those size of screw's?! 😬😅😳 watch screw's are also straight/flat head instead of Phillips head which makes it even more difficult to get them in and out (luckily I'm only taking them apart and then throwing the tiny screw's in my collection LOL. ) Anyway great informative video. 👍🏼👍🏼👏🏼👌🏼😁✌🏼 🙏🏼Namaste🙏🏼

Hope this 'cured' it. I barely know what I am doing and have been at it for a while now so I know how difficult it is when you just start something. This is the link to the blog or this house where you can find more stuff if you want to: daltonhouse.blogspot.com/

I’ve just been given a dalton. Do you use real slate or cardboard?
@burygardeners

I really really like Richard Stacey versi slates and bricks. They are cardboard but very well done and I think realistic looking when in place. I think they actually have some sort of brick dust on the bricks and some similar finish on the slates they don't just feel as though you are dealing with just paint. I decided very early on that brick slips and real slate were lovely but more complicated to do than the versi bricks and more importantly would add a massive amount of weight to an already very hefty object. As with all things miniature everyone will have their own preferences for one material or another. this is a link to a blog which lists all my blog addresses if you want to look at other projects where I have used the versi brick and slate. I have used it on everything I have done. allmyblogaddresses.blogspot.com/

Gillian Blake Richard Stacey. These are their Versi bricks here's a link to the site. www.miniaturebricks.com/. Thanks for watching glad it helped. I love this product and use the bricks and tiles and other versi products on every single build. My video isn’t necessarily the right or easiest way to do them it is just something I have worked our for me. Happy bricking.

can you use mini dollhouse itemsfor barbie dollhouse you going to make by hand?
@burygardeners
@burygardeners 7 жыл бұрын
The usual scale for dolls houses is 1:12. You can also buy 1:24, 1:16 and 1:48 quite easily. Barbie is 1:6 so basically she needs things that are twice the size of the things I am working with.

Thank you. I have no idea how to alter the video so I am hoping your comment does that for me. I did say if the viewer googled Small World Products they would find a vendor so hopefully they will find you easily enough. Just very glad the system is still available as It will always be the one I use.

Great. But how do you paint the windows??
@burygardeners
@burygardeners 7 жыл бұрын
HI June, Windows can come in all sorts of ways....with or without glazing etc. Generally they are just frames that come with the kit and need painting before you stick them in place. I did a post in my blog showing how I painted the ones in this kit. Daltonhouse.blogspot.com. Look in left hand column at Labels and click on the bottom

EXCELLENT tutorial Marilyn! And thanks for the information regarding the high quality of a Krylon gold pen, I shall be looking into that later, but as soon as I listened to what you said about storing felts, I went to the ones I have standing heads up and immediately flipped them all over! Dried out felts are the bane of my existence and what you've pointed out makes perfect sense.

Thank you so much for that. I do this in hopes it helps someone now and then as I remember searching like mad for how-to-do-its when I started. The videos have slowed down for a while as much of the construction is done and dusted but some time way down the line I will be finishing off the wiring at the back of the house and intend to share that. Meanwhile there is other stuff on my blog as I bowl along. daltonhouse.blogspot.co.uk
