Tried the leather cup on a 442 Feather stove once but it was so tight in there it was impossible to pump with it on and when I forced it the edges of the leather cup would actually flip upwards. I'd go with the black cup's always, I have ones that lasted for 15 years when regularly lubed

Christ that was painful to watch , like a monkey fu¢#ing a football , Not that hard of a process , 2 things needed to be done , 1st open the pump by turning the knob counter clockwise, 1 turn is fine , that opens the passageway to allow air to flow passed the check valve , 2nd , the pump guide rod is square or triangle shape so the rod and pump need to line up to allow it to slide in , We can hear the air hissing out of the knob because the check valve was still closed . Other than that I would probably use a piece of thin plastic instead of a piece of sharp aluminum that could damage the new leather pump cup. Next time try eBay or Amazon for parts , most of those seller's ship internationally, if not I will ship some small maintenance parts from the US to you

Hi, how safe was your trip to lake Baikal, I am planning rv trip with my daughter and wife to lake baikal, and hit lake Huvsgul in Mongolia from the northern border. Is there campsites that are protected, should we worry about the bandits and the cops?

Heya Dorjjav, we were a few times around Lake Baikal in Russia in various seasons. I'm not sure what you mean by protected. When we camp, it's mostly in the wilds. We did not find any reason to be worried about bandits or cops. Enjoy your trip! BTW this video is shot in Kazakhstan and not at Lake Baikal. ;-)

@@landcruisingadventure i am aware that ure in Kazakhstan now, gonna be cold soon, better head south or u have different plans. By protected I mean organized campsites where there are staff on duty. Like they have waterhose, trash bins, electricity preferably and designated campsites. Bit nervous to sleep in rv with child on board. Heard there are robberies and such. Planning to Ulaanbaatar -Ulaan Ude-Lake baikal-Irkutsk- Lake Huvsgul. Not gonna camp too far from the main road

I find it interesting that replacing the junk neoprene cups with leather is seen as an upgrade seeing as Coleman originally used leather up to the mid to late 90's. I have a 286 lantern from 96 that came with a leather cup but my 295 from 99 came with neoprene. I replace the neoprene ones with leather irrespective of how good they still are. The leather is superior in every way. As proof, my 1948 Coleman 157 table lamp still has its original leather pump cup and it work s just as good as new.
@AroundAndAround2
@AroundAndAround2 Жыл бұрын
Just went through the same pump cup replacement for my Dual Fuel Model 424 Camp Stove (unleaded fuel compatible). After decades of reliable use, I tried to fix the pressurization problem by switching to a leather pump cup. I found that installing the oiled cup was too stiff. So, I phoned Coleman and they recommended Pump Cup part number 6391091 (Neoprene). I tried this and it easily installed and sealed without issues. Coleman said that this was also compatible with my 295 dual fuel lantern. So, I think the Neoprene pump cup is the way to go for these two dual fuel appliances. I suggest phoning Coleman toll free to get replacement part information for your specific appliance since the pump chamber diameter (and generators) are slightly different, depending on model.
@Enjoymentboy
@Enjoymentboy Жыл бұрын
@@AroundAndAround2 Coleman only changed to the neoprene because they are WAY cheaper to make and they wear out (planned obsolescence) but if they work better for you who am I to argue. lol I know on by 290 and 295 the founts are identical except for paint colour and stickers. The pump tube on all the founts are the same as is the diameter of the pumps. The leather can be stiff though but working it a bit solves that. I make my own pump cups now as what Coleman is charging is far too much. I literally make them for pennies. I have dozens of lanterns and stoves and have yet to have a leather pump cup fail on me. The neoprene though have always either worn our or split. To each his own though. I'm just glad you found something that works and that you're happy with. Enjoy your lantern and stove.😀

It seems easier to put it in first, then soak the leather with fuel and then oil!

I don't think you will be able to get a new leather cup in there. It will be too stiff and won't fit.

@@landcruisingadventure perhaps I had an off-brand. The leather was shrunken, but expanded after it was soaked. :)
