There's a much easier way to do this. Window > Color Palettes > Pantone Solid Coated Use colors from this palette when when applying fills/outlines, just make sure you use the same color swatch for a given color in the design; if you use two different shades of a color, even if they LOOK the same, Corel will treat them as different colors. In the Print dialog box, click the "Color" tab and switch from "Composite" to "Separations." Then click the "Separations" tab. The Pantone colors you used in the design will appear in a box at the bottom. You can uncheck ones you don't want to print, like a distress overlay color or background color. The printer will now print your separations.
@screenprintartist Жыл бұрын
That is correct! You can also use Pantone spot colors and then print them out as separations! There is still a challenge in underbase creation and selective trapping of different areas of colors - that is the reason I do the longer version of this - if you need to send out the seps as a different format, underbase the design, or selectively trap areas of the colors it is easier when the design is split into different pages.
@sixstanger00 Жыл бұрын
@@screenprintartist For underbases/trapping/choking, I usually create a new page in the document, duplicate the design, and then simply apply a "Pantone Transparent White" fill to all objects I want underbased. If I need it trapped/choked, I add an outline that is usually 1pt or 2pt (I use an Anatol press, so registration usually is tight). But there really is no need to create multiple pages (one for each color in the design).

Good tutorial. Thank you for sharing. Question: Could you not trace the dog itself as a detailed logo? That way it would have an artsy feel. Also, nudging the highlight of the duplicate dog would have given a backlit effect which would have made the dog standout on a black t-shirt, which would provide more detail about the dog itself. So I would have left the highlight part to remain as it is.
@screenprintartist3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jacob - yes, that is possible although occasionally the art becomes too complex to add effects to and if you try to merge it there can be other issues. A lot of this depends on the contrast and interference from background elements. If an image doesn't have a clean edge that will create a separation from the background then that option isn't a consideration. Some of the other methods end up being comfort and style of process - there are many methods to make it work - thanks for the feedback!

How can I make half tones without converting it to a bitmap?
@screenprintartist3 жыл бұрын
the only practical way to do that is with a RIP (raster image processor) software - such as Accu-rip for example - this will convert any grayscale in a separation spot color or cmyk separation to a pre-defined halftone screen - then you don't have to do this process. Some older laser printers (we had an hp laser 5000 or something) that had a version of postscript in it that would work as a RIP and convert separations also - but essentially this is a function outside of CorelDRAW - I am showing here how to "cheat" and do it inside the software so you don't need a RIP - but for volume of work or daily separations you should get a RIP - it's worth it

Thank you... For the valued teaching... Been having trouble finding commentary that you can understand.... Wondering if its possible to make a Starburst effect in corel same as in illustrator?
@screenprintartist3 жыл бұрын
you would have to tell me exactly what you mean by "starburst" but I bet the answer is "yes" - so far I can create and / or simulate most effects in Illustrator in Corel - the only exception is when a grunge pattern is traced and there are 10,000 pieces - this is better in illustrator - but... I would argue that it makes a nasty file and then it should be a bitmap effect anyways, lol

Have you ever taken a font like this and corrected all the little issues with it and saved it so you can go back to it for using it in other projects or share it?
@screenprintartist3 жыл бұрын
great question! Yes, I have re-rendered a whole font set - I haven't created a fully functioning font for document use, that is a whole additional step - but most often I am "off to the next job" and there isn't enough incentive to render an entire character set so I do as needed modifications. Thanks for the feedback!
