This video is crazy because I saw no fish at all in the first pond. It was also 8 am and 34 degrees out so they may have been in deeper water. Or I'm blind

Im guessing that was likely due to the time of day. During the fall/winter months the trout are more active during the warmest parts of the day.

How do you set up your leader and flies?
@troutmasteroutdoorsАй бұрын
It is called the jeff blood rig. Basically I use a 9 ft tapered leader with an oros indicator (size and positioning depends on depth and flow), down to my first fly which is usually a blood dot egg. 8 inches above that I bulk up quite a few split shot (amount also depends on depth/flow.) 15 inches below the first fly I tie on a white death zonker.

Well some run more than others from the salt and from the lake. Another factor is the environment, these streams are usually shallower and slimmer than west coast water

In two weeks i’m going up to erie, and i was wondering if you’ve fished elk creek this season? If so, are the conditions good? I’m a beginner fly fisher and I have 8’6 7wt rod. A lot of people say 10’ are good for steelhead. do you think i’d still be able to catch a lot with an 8’6 rod? Great vid man.
@TarnishedChimp_Ай бұрын
You could definitely catch them with an 8'6.

The conditions are always changing. I fished elk the Wednesday. There was a lot of fish in the creek. But the condition will change with no rain.
@troutmasteroutdoorsАй бұрын
Yesh man u could definitely use that rod! I like longer rods as it makes it easier to mend line and fight fish but u could get the job done with an 8 foot 6. As for the conditions, they were prime last tuesday but can change very quickly if we don't get more rain soon. Good luck out on the water!

What creek is that? Sure as hell doesn't look like trout run! Unless it's right at the mouth but I can't tell? Fishing erie for steelhead hasn't been the same in 20 years and probably never will be! We used to spend 3 or 4 weekends there every fall into winter. We'd hook into 200 steelhead in 2 days, landing at least 40 or 50. last year 2023 I drove up with my daughter spent a weekend didn't catch 1 fish! I'll never go back! It wasn't even January yet early December, and the creeks were completely empty with the exception of lower walnut at Manchester. It was the only hole with fish, and we walked from the mouth to the tunnels and tressel. elk creek had fish except we decided to fish the lower end instead of the upper end. I stopped on our way home at dark where 79 passes over elk creek and the fish were the whole way up! I wish I thought of that first! I believe we would have dine better there! To many non fishermen crowd those lower holes making it not fun at all to even get close! Non wonder the land owners had enough! So I will never return to erie again! Soon ill be moving to Washington State and that's where the best Fishing of my life will begin! Sad to say Fishing PA has declined so horribly since I was a kid! Even oir local streams and lakes are suffering here in and around western Pennsylvania I feel bad for all younger generations who will never exper Fishing like I did when I was younger!

@@allenstayduhar7139 thanks for watching man! Yes this was trout run, right off the mouth in the nursery water section. I wish I experienced the Erie tribe back then when there were more fish along with salmon but I still do pretty decent when I go up there. Definitely no 200 fish trips for me tho haha. I’ve heard great things about the fishing in Washington, good luck fishing there! 🤙🏾🎣
@allenstayduhar71394 ай бұрын
@troutmasteroutdoors at least 200 fish we'd hook into between a Friday evening and Sunday night no problem land at least 30 or 40 fish in that time. If you didn't catch that many you were doing something wrong. It is a skill catching those fish. One thing I will tell you is if I do come up this fall, I will never fish walnut again. To many people! I sure hope you're right about washington. My daughter is leaving in 8 days for bellingham. Rather than fight her mother making everyone's lives miserable, I just decided to let her go, and move myself next spring. Custody battles are nasty. I couldn't put my kid through that! Good luck this year!
