Wales is next to England in the United Kingdom. Caerphilly is about a 2 1/2 hour train ride from London.

Caerphilly Castle is the second largest castle in the UK, second to Windsor. The fortress was built between 1268 and 1271 by Gilbert de Clare. He built the castle to take control of Glamorgan and to prevent the Welsh Prince Llewellyn ap Gruffudd from achieving his southward ambitions. The prince tried twice to knock it down, however, it was rebuilt. I’ll be uploading a longer version later today if you’d like more history facts!

There was hours of history to read and look at. Plus it’s a short walk from Dolbadarn Castle and in Eryri (Snowdonia) surrounded by beautiful scenery.

In South Wales I love Caerphilly but I’m bias because it was my first castle and where my bf and I had our first official date. In North Wales it’s Penrhyn Castle which I’ll be uploading next week!

It’s free! There is a £6 fee for the car park (parking lot.) The museum attached, castle, and gardens are free to walk around!

It was. There was noone around except my boyfriend and I. It reminded me of Rapunzel’s tower while looking down.
