The National Slate Museum located at Gilfach Ddu, in Llanberis. In August 1969 the quarry was suddenly shut down without warning. It was supposed to go to auction, although Chief Engineer, Hugh Richard Jones convinced the auctioneer and receiver to preserve the quarry, making it a museum for all to enjoy.
Walk along the machinery used to fuel the Welsh slate industry. Watch videos and a blacksmith perform the craft of slate splitting.
Admission is free to the museum.
