What a great video. You covered alot on here, and your fish handling is perfect! I had a lightning rod once and broke it within a few months. Lol. What's your favorite braid to use? I switched to mono on my float rods this year, seems to suit me better, but I used to use sufix 832.
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventuresКүн бұрын
@Pray4Mojo1 Yeah, all rods can break, I used the lighting rod for a couple of seasons before I broke the very tip-off. I just put a new tip eye on the rod and have been using it for a couple more seasons with no issues and bought new replacement rods, but I'm still using the same shortened one, haha. I use powerpro 20 pounds. Yeah, mono vs. braid is a matter of personal choice and comfort. I dont think all people should switch to braid on float rod if they like mono. On spinning rods for twitching i think braid is superior choice.

I recently just got into fishing for salmon. I tried using some bnr soft beads but I got no bites and I've seen people use scents on beads. Is it recommended to do this?? Then again im a noob so i could of been float fishing wrong
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventuresКүн бұрын
@JohnSmithens12 i have never used scents on beads and have caught plenty of fish on them. You should try floating shorter and try that out. I think it's more a matter or your float fishing technique and location that the use of the wrong bead or no scent. It can't hurt though.

@JohnSmithens12 best of luck... Just watch this video in detail and hope you pick up the pearls on how to float fish successfully. It is a skill developed over time though. A lot of the success has to do with the water you pick to float.

is there ever a specific time that you've had beads work really well for you? I've noticed you catch a very high % of you fish with roe, are beads typically a last resort for you? thanks
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventuresКүн бұрын
Good question. Some years I have fished mostly soft beads because they were highly effective. Last year I caught a lot of fish on beads. For some reason this year I have done much better on roe. I usually try beads if my roe isn't working. So I usually do always start with roe especially since I always have a good supply. Some days guys are slaying on beads and then I'll just switch to bead since pretty convenient.
@aksyonov100Күн бұрын
Thanks for the excellent explanation! Do you keep your float and weight on the braid line or using some sort of mono bumper?
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventuresКүн бұрын
@aksyonov100 no, I just got straight braided line right to my swivel and then the fluorocarbon leader. I guess if you are concerned about being more undetectable in super clear water you can tie a longer mono or fluorocarbon bumper at the end and put your float on that. I haven't done it but I may try for this upcoming steelhead season. I just don't feel it makes a difference for salmon using the low vis green, brown or white power pro braid.

@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures2 күн бұрын
Haha... yes this is a long one with lots of fishing theory talk involved amongst some catching of fish. As far as the jigs go, I started using them because of my buddy. Was his little outside the norm presentstion. Now we saw BNR is going to start releasing this product. I just buy the parts and put them together myself and then tie the hook leaders separately.

I'm 12 and i live in burnaby so the vedder is a long drive for me but i'm going there tomorrow. This is probably my favorite spot on the vedder but since the water came up the island in between the pond and the river is gone so i can't fish the edge of the current anymore. What spots on this "pond" are the most productive and fish-able?
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures4 күн бұрын
It's pretty slow now, not much fish left to catch. Might get the odd one if you're lucky. You can still fish the remaining edges even though the island is gone.

Nice video. This is how it should be done IMO. Big well known river, highlights of peak season, sharing tips even. Not some tiny flow with volunteer hatchery and no crowds being advertised online by new fishermen for views. In the 90s I used to order the almost identical spoons from California that a guy made in his basement, the Mor-Tack Stilly spoon hammered copper or 50/50 etc. Because everybody else drift fished in BC back then.

Glad you enjoyed it. I know everyone has their opinions on media and it's use in every part of life. Some areas are more sensitive than others. I try not to bring unnecessary attention to little fisheries. I don't name a lot of places, but do name a few that are more well known by the masses already. I'm sure there are people who have issue with videos even like this. I usually wait a bit to post these as well... I have been fishing this spot this last week and usually only 2 to 4 people per side. So have at it whoever wants to try to catch the last few coho going through. Not sure if this spot will survive the winter and spring high water times. We will see next summer how things look. So nobody fished lures in the 90s??? That is interesting. Lure fishing is what got me into river and coho fishing. I didn't start trying till I moved to the area around 2015. Thanks for commenting.

Fluorocarbon bumper as discussed in the Video. He asked me why I had a six inch piece of clear line. I usually tie on a 5 to 10 foot piece and it just slowly disappears because I change my hooks often and re-tie often.
