Carolyn, you're a trouper! You really persevered through several challenges and met them confidently...Brava. Final result is not that important, it's the process that you shared with us that is invaluable. I admire your tenacity. The print is a success!

While I prefer the shorts, this video shows the "hazards" artists face in the studio on a daily basis and the matter of fact "It's okay, I can make this work and here's how" attitude that experience develops. Thanks. Another striking image.

Cool! Looks like the frame opening is just a tad bit smaller than the gelli plate to me. How much smaller is the opening? Just curious as to what works best
@carolynhassardart3 күн бұрын
It’s 1/4” ( one quarter inch) smaller than the plate on each side.
@smyification3 күн бұрын
Amazing print….. astonished how long you take to place items and can still get a print so quickly……
@carolynhassardart3 күн бұрын
Hi! Thanks! It’s partly because of the misting. Nothing is happening quickly. It takes about an hour to make these prints. I cut out the cleaning the plate time, speed up the running time etc in the video to keep them under 10 minutes. There is a long version available of the botanical where you can see the process in real time.
@smyification3 күн бұрын
@ I’ll have to try misting the paint. I do have some golden open paints coming and I know the dry time on those is longer so allows for more work time.

@tango7808 күн бұрын
@@carolynhassardart Thank you, Carolyn. I did not have Cobalt so I made mine with Ultramarine instead, hoping for good results. I followed your instructions and now I am waiting for my collage to dry overnight. I had to get my head around which paint must dry (white) vs stay wet (green) for the process to work properly. Hi! Lovely video, thank you for sharing :) Do you need to use fixative when you use charcoal or pastels?
@carolynhassardart8 күн бұрын
No need, no. Just don’t use a ‘wet’ medium and the paint will stick to the plate and get picked up by your acrylic. Keep your acrylic ‘dry’ or ‘sticky’ - from the tube. Fluids move the charcoal. Do t use fixative on your gelli plate.
@malinjanliden11358 күн бұрын
hi thank your for answering :) I maybe was a little bit vague with my question, I mean after the painting is finished? :)

May I ask you what is jelly plate? I really curious about you are doing. I love the effects you getting!
@carolynhassardart9 күн бұрын
Commercial gelli plates are a mat made from some sort of plastic that releases acrylic paint once set. Homemade gelli plate are made from gelatin. They are used to print from - to create monoprints-instead of glass, as would have been used ‘in the old days’. The original ‘gelli plate’ was the hectograoh. It was used in the fields of war to create multiple copies of messages.

I just found your channel. I love your 4 layer prints! I do a lot of gel printing myself, but I always use wet strength tissue. Reason being that I find it much easier to collage with. But I can see that the paper you use gives more vibrant color than tissue paper. Glad I found you. Looking forward to more videos!
@carolynhassardart10 күн бұрын
Aw, Thankyou.❤️. It’s always nice to be found! Yes. Wettable tissue is great for collage, but my goal is to make stand alone prints as art. Hence the stronger paper.

What do you make your outside guide with? Just poster board or something of that nature ?
@carolynhassardart10 күн бұрын
Hi! I make it from the same paper I’m printing with so that when I put the print on top it’s a perfect size template. I reinforce the window with tape. This is more logical than the corners - because the gelli plate shifts with every pull.

Could you not put the pieces of paper on charcoal markings and then roll black over it?

Yes! But, then the charcoal not coated with acrylic would dust off.

I am so sorry if this is a stupid question.. Can you draw the chalk straight onto the geli plate?
@carolynhassardart10 күн бұрын
Hi! No; not straight on the plate. It just won't slide. You have to draw on paper (I use newsprint) and then turn it upside down so you rub the chalk onto the plate.

Right! Never do that! I never do. I lift the old paint with the next print or wipe it off. Sometimes I keep it wet with a spray bottle so I can wipe it off with paper towels.
