Great list! Glad to see you're also a fan of John Gwynne, his battle scenes are legendary. Also, Lonesome Dove is a great non-fantasy read, but have you tried Pillars of the Earth? Everyone I've ever recommended it to has loved it and I think it's even better than Lonesome Dove

10. Empire of the vampire (10 because it's unfinished) 9. Kingkiller chronicles (unfinished) 8. Red rising 7. Six of crows 6. First law era 2 5 the arc of scythe 4. Stormlight Archive ( a bit overrated) 3.. First law era 1 2. mistborn era 1 1. the raven cycle. (mostly nostalgia but it's a great book with amazing writing)

If you are having a mixed list. The books need to be legendary. LOTR is too low. Foundation and Narnia are missing. Malazan is better than Stomlight, 😝, the teens are going to hate that!

This series is the best LITRPG. It showcases the horror of our behaviors and the pain it causes by showcasing the characters that exhibit those behaviors and the realistical outcome if left to their own devices. E.G. killing whole races and using the media to profit off of others' pain and suffering while using it as a form of control over everyone. The suffering and anguish under a tyrannical planetary government is so painful through the lens of the oppressed (Carl). "You will not break me"

Having read this, I have to say I disagree about the battles. So far, the uniting element of malazan has been that it has probably the worst action I've ever read. I mean, Tolkien didn't do battle scenes well eather, but he at least kept them short. These are kind of boring, and they drag. My favorite scenes have been the character driven one's were people are just talking. As such, i found myself liking Felisin's story way more than the "chain of dogs" that honestly i could take or leave.

I expect a story to take a while to get interesting. This is not just boring. It is brutally boring. The opening is interesting, but the author just starts wondering into nothing here, nothing there, and nothing to keep me going into another book.

It sounds like the author took the concept of Battlestar Galactica and completely turned it on its head. I’m interested. Bumping this one up my TBR.
