Great tips on steps to take on any used vehicle. You Mention off-roading it… any reason you didn’t go with a more capable vehicle like a 4-runner?
@NVSTRZ34Ай бұрын
@DIYManiacJohnP Good question. I like both. 99% of my time driving was going to be in the city. If I wanted a more serious off road vehicle, I would have gone with a 4runner. 4runner will probably end up cheaper to maintain too. I wanted a hint of more luxury and exhaust sound personally. Both are great options.

is the gx really worth it? i mean that valley plate leak and transmission issues are major turn off on these cars? do you know if the leak still persists on the 2020 later models? m thnking on getting one
@NVSTRZ34Ай бұрын
@ExpertKZbinCommentator I love my GX and am planning on owning it until the foreseeable future. Valley plate is just something to keep an eye out for. I don't mind that being a thing for the longevity the engine is supposed to have plus the nice power levels. Transmissions issues I have seen are a little more rarer and I personally don't tow anything, so no real worry there. Not sure how the 2020 model is any different. I say pull the trigger but just get it checked out by a qualified shop. Be sure to also check out the KDSS components too like my truck in the video.

@NVSTRZ343 ай бұрын
@rontannehill9679 I wish I had more insights here, but I am down in Houston, and rust frames aren't very normal unless you are closer to the coast. What I have seen online, though, is folks applying protective coastings on the underside annually and having good luck with that. I figured that would be kinda standard practice further up north for most cars, but that's kinda out of my wheelhouse. Everything else has been holding together great though.

Are all 2013’s immune to the oil gallery gasket issue? Is that confirmed because I see conflicting statements online and can’t seem to find an official answer from Nissan or Infiniti anywhere. Are we sure the 2013’s have this issue fixed?
@NVSTRZ344 ай бұрын
@npprom I've now seen conflicting statements too. I would say 2013's are probably not immune. If 2013 owners are saying they are having issues, I would assume it happens to them too. Maybe some of the failures just come with time and would make sense that we see more years as the 370Z platform ages.

My Dec 2023 GX 460 pulsates when the break is lightly pressed in slow motion either forward or reverse gear, Bob Johnson Lexus in Rochester, NY says there is nothing wrong with the SUV, everything is as per spec and this is a design problem from Lexus. Wonder if any others have the same problem, I never had this issue with the three 4Runner Limited's that I owned in the past. There is no vibration while breaking at higher speeds, issue is only at very low speeds like when you move slow in bumper to bumper traffic with break half pressed. I feel the pulsations on my legs and arm rest, there is no vibration on the steering wheel.

The fact that they’re telling you to fix it is crazy. Most stores will tell you that if you tried to fix/service any warrantied product on your own, it voids the warranty because only a “certified technician” can work on it. The reason a fully functional alternator would fail to "CHARGE" a dead battery... is because the battery is discharged too low. When a battery is discharged below 2 volts... too much of the electrolytes are chemically bonded to the Cathode Plates. The more a battery is discharged, the more energy that is required to debond the electrolytes off of the Cathode Plates, so they can dissolve into solution, & bond to the Anode Plates, rebuilding the battery's Electrical Potential. This is why dead batteries need a Boost Charge from a high (60 - 150 Amp) battery charger to debond the electrolytes, & then switch to a low (1 - 3 Amp) maintain function to keep the electrolytes bonded to the Anode plates until the battery's Electrical Potential is stablized. Once the cathode plates have been desulfided... the battery will leak down at it's normal rate, holding its charge for the normal period of time. The reason alternators typically fail to achieve this, is because most of their power output does not pass through the battery, & what does pass through, remains relatively constant & does NOT get regulated down to a low 1 - 3 A trickle charge. A 60 Amp alternator stays running at about 60 Amps... a 130 Amp alternator stays running at about 130 Amps... etc., with only about 10 - 15 Amps going to the battery. Now on newer cars that are equipped with a battery voltage sensor on the negative terminal... the ECU does regulate the amperage passing through the battery. When the battery is fully charged... the ECU will regulate the current to 1 - 3 A, only allowing a trickle charge to enter the battery. When the battery has very low voltage... the ECU will regulate a boost charge into the battery, allowing most of the alternator's current output to pass through the battery, & progressively step down that Amperage to a 1 - 3 A trickle charge. Note... vehicles that have these type of charging systems need to have a Battery Reset Function performed, when a new battery is installed, or the ECU will not properly regulate the recharge cycle of the new battery. This is because once the ECU gets use to boost - triclkle charging an old battery... it will continue to charge the new fully charged battery this way, causing it to over heat during the boost charge cycle & causing permanent sulfication on the plates... thus shortening the battery's lifespan.
@my-max-media7621Ай бұрын
So when you put a new battery in, is there a "reset" for the cars ECU to relearn the new battery🤔. If so, I've never heard of this AND if not then what's the protocol?
@OOTurokАй бұрын
@my-max-media7621 Yes. In newer cars where the ECU regulates battery voltage... you have to hook up an OBD reader & run the battery resest process. Not all OBD readers have this battery reset function, so if you plan to buy one for yourself, read the features to make sure it can do battery resets.
