I have an issue after replacing my battery. The OBD was hooked up to the power source to hold settings but when I had it replaced I had a few issues. The gauge cluster lights up minus the needles, the needles don't dance upon startup, the clock on the 3 gauges don't hold memory, the odometer resets on every startup and the brightness is dim on the cluster after every restart until I manually increase the brightness. I think its a fuse but unsure which one it could be, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
@NVSTRZ342 жыл бұрын
@@ProjectAnubisUSA Hello! If it were me, I would be disconnecting/reconnecting the battery, then starting with the driver side kick panel fuse box, check all the fuses. The fuse box should have a fuse diagram with names for relevant components. Then would replace with same fuse type as needed. Also, make sure your battery is not drained again. Outside of that, sometimes gremlins like this take a little bit of time to get sorted out. If you have worked on the car recently, make sure all connection are FIRMLY connected.

Let me pick your brain a little. The lock request switch on the driver side door handle I have to be right up on it basically have the key touching the door handle for it to work but passenger side I can have the key in my pocket or by the mirror and it works fine and the truck lock switch works no issues either. Sorry meant to add I replaced the switch on the door handle as well. Still same issue. Idk if it’s an antenna issue or what could be wrong with it

Fantastic list. I’ve owned an 09 for eight years and have experienced most of these. One I would add - the 370Z has the “Worlds Most Temperamental Gas Cap.” If you’re check engine light goes on and you have no idea why, but a new, good quality gas cap. That might be all it is (if you’re lucky)!
@brian11574 жыл бұрын
I've owned 2 370z's , both 6 speed manuals, and I drove both of them very hard on a regular basis. The last one was taken to the local drag strip almost every weekend during the summers and daily driven. Issues I had was the universal joint clicking, which is solved by reinstalling it 180°. Oil temp would get a little higher, but Id just let it cool off a bit and just get right back to it and I never had any issues, I also changed my oil frequently at around 2k to 3k miles. The stock 14" rotors and Nissan pads are shit... Bite the bullet and just pay for the Z1 2 piece rotors and a good set of pads. I went through tires like crazy. I actually found that the Firestone Indy 500 tires worked great on this car. I never experienced the "common" issues that everyone talks about on KZbin and on the forums. I think the biggest thing I did to prevent those things from happening was the excessive care and maintenance I did to them. They're sports cars, they get driven hard, just be proactive and change the fluids and keep poking around at the car to keep an eye on things.

I have a 2011 which I've owned for nearly 3yrs. Daily driven and so far no problems. I do agree the narrow clutch engage window is tricky in traffic and I might try a different spring but I have got use to the stock item over time. I am always aware of the CSC just as one of the main concerns. I would like to convert to external slave at some point. The biggest weak point i've found and its only really an issue if you push the car hard and go heavy on the brakes. They tend to fade very quickly due to a lack of cooling so I've got a brake cooling kit to fit on mine. Overall still very happy with my Z.
@NVSTRZ344 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your support and comment David. Yeah. When my CSC goes, 100% going to a CMAK kit. I've addressed my brake concerns mostly (but need to now swap to high temp brake fluid to complete the upgrade for track days).

Yes - these are most of the key issues. The steering lock issue is subject to factory recall (at least in UK) and will be fixed for free by dealers. I've not experienced the throttle sensor issue nor the leaky diff issue but I recognize all the others. One other point - the OEM brakes are not good enough for track day use. They can be made to work well with decent carbon brake pads though.

Part of the problem is also that people don't change the fluid. I bought my 2017 Z Sport at around 17,000 miles and changed the fluid at 20,000. The stuff that came out was black. I bled it several times and put in some high temp Motul 600 brake fluid. There was an immediate and dramatic improvement in clutch performance. The Z is also a very hard car to get the hang of when it comes to shifting. Even as an experienced stick driver it is by far the most unforgiving car I've ever driven.

Way cheaper way to keep your oil temperatures down & the engine temperature temperature down is by buying an aftermarket front end. there is not enough air coming through the original front end. Good vid bro.. U should have put the 4cent mod in ur vid since u talked about the trunk section in ur vid... Costs all of 4 cents to do.. You know that is a good call. I too experienced this problem. I also went down a rabbit hole of more elaborate fixes, but the penny mod is the best return on time invested. I kept having issues with the rubber boot popping off myself, but it wasnt popping open with 2 pennies for me. My guess is that my hatch struts were also going out, and if I had fresh ones installed, the 2 penny trick might have worked a lot better for me. Lesson learned.

I'm thinking of buying a 370z or 350z not sure which one to buy. The fuel gauge issue was also common in frontiers the fix for those was to buy a new fuel pump and problem solved. Another of the issues was the the oil cooler would fail and would mix coolant with oil and rip. Never really had that issue happened since I bought an after market radiator to avoid it. The bearings on the steering wheel would also fail almost crashed because of that one. The steering wheel got stuck and super hard to move. Once all that was fixed. I loved my car. @NVSTRZ343 жыл бұрын
Hello Colby! The 2010 does have the potential to experience any one of these issues in the video. On top of these issues mentioned in the video, there was another issue left out that I dedicated an ENTIRE video to called "The Nissan and Infiniti Gallery Gasket Problem". Go check out that video as well because it is also relevant for you and many other Z's and G's on the road. That being mentioned, my best advice is to just focus on normal maintenance, buy yourself a good code reader (if you don't already have one - I referenced one in the video description if you are looking for recommendations) and just drive and have a blast. The likelihood of experiencing ALL these issues in ownership is fairly low (but they do creep up from time to time). Know what they are in case something goes wrong so you dont get ripped off in repair costs. Also, engine code readers are your friend (like I mentioned above)! Always feel free to come back to my KZbin and ask away with your questions. I try to respond promptly. Hope you stick around and follow the channel. I am also starting an offroad build here shortly that is going to be awesome (my latest video about the Lexus GX460). Hope to see you around. Take care. Have fun. -Justin

Thanks for the video, I'm currently facing the 2nd issue with fuel level. After an autocross event I started to have a fault code for Fuel Level Sensor Circuit High Input, and I'm trying to figure out how to solve. Do you have a video or manual when you solved the inaccuracy of fuel level? Thanks
@NVSTRZ344 жыл бұрын
I dont have one... YET. BUT... I have it on my radar to do very soon. There are 3 likely scenarios for the inaccuracy: 1. The fuel BASKET has broken off (the top is plastic and brittle). I found this to be very common and can be corrected with a CJM metal top (can be purchased from z1 motorsports). Symptoms are that the fuel level is always wrong. 2. The fuel level sensor itself is bad or going bad (needs oem replacement). Symptom is intermittent fuel level accuracy. 3. Fuel level sensor STUCK (probably best to just replace the fuel level sensor. Symptom is intermittent fuel level accuracy. My advice... just replace both since everything will be taken apart. Might be $250-$300 in parts. I keep my Z fueled constantly in the meantime, but yeah... I will definitely making a detailed video that ANYONE can follow. Stay tuned 🤘
Thank you for the quick reply. In my case it was very weird, I didn't have any accident, then, the estimate of miles until empty got very weird changing every 5 min, very inaccurate, until it stop estimating and the Check Engine Soon light poped up. From that day, I have no estimation of fuel level. Tried clearing out the error with OBD2 scanner, but it lights up again. Interestingly, it happened after an autocross event, and didnt have any accidents, but had many sharp right turns, which you mentioned on the video. Since it measured, inaccurately tho, the level, I ruled out problems with connectors, and I think the root causes you mentioned might be right. A quick search on net showed that changing solving that on a shop could potentially cost me up to $1200. So I want to open and check everything, make sure the source of the error and order the parts needed. Thanks.

@@wmnkmr That's sounds like the fuel pump basket has broken off from the plastic top. You can replace with OEM, but the part I listed above would be leaps and bounds better. Of course, you will only know once you crack open the tank.

@@seollenda Yes. Replace the clutch helper spring ASAP. I did a video on my channel about how to do this easily (if you click into my channel, it should be easily found). Its stupid cheap and helps driveability big time for manual 370Z's. As far as advice goes, make sure all the normal buying stuff for a used car checks out, and just be ready to replace the CSC with an upgraded option in case it goes out. Usually, the CMAK kit is the best option and requires the least amount of adjusting post install. The OEM CSC piece is well known to let go and its not cheap to replace with the upgrade unit I mentioned above. The good news is that if you drop the transmission, its the perfect excuse to also install a new performance clutch (2 birds - 1 stone). Do it while you are in there.

@@seollenda Buy a 2015 to 2017 used, manual. Manuals are becoming more scarce these days and soon they will be like gems. Also, manuals hold more power than the autos, and the autos lose power due to torque converter slip. The auto trans also weighs more than manual. Then: Make sure you either replace your CSC (clutch slave cylinder) with a bypass or have a warranty so it can be replaced. Also save money to upgrade water/oil cooling system if your area gets hot days, but I've been fine with the stock one so far. Oh, and replace the stock exhaust cuz it is insanely restrictive with airflow coming out of the engine. A good dual-exit 2.5-inch exhaust is optimal but some guys wave a bit of HP for a single exit. Single exit exhaust will sound more "trumpety" or farty, though.

These are problems with any manufacturer. Fuel gauge issue and fuel starvation is a ploy for Z1 to sell parts you don't need. Worked on Nissan a long time . Only issue I see that is legit is the steering lock and the clutch issue and rear burnings. They rest are people on the Z forums with no clue and creating a false misconception about the Z cars. All cars have issues, it's called mass production.
@NVSTRZ34 Жыл бұрын
I've experienced a fair amount of these issues myself (including the fuel gauge issue - its well documented and very real). The video is not a slam on the Z. All vehicles usually have their own handful of issues. This video breaks down some of the best known issues with the 370Z.

I am going to preface my comment by saying that in my opinion, if you are getting a Z you should definitely get something around the 2015 or newer mark. I feel like it is the best "generation" of Z's if you will. I also want to say if you are going to complain about potential maintenance on a sports car, or this car... you are hilarious because this is easily one of the most reliable and cheapest sports cars you can get and it's not even close. I might copy some of his points but I am only here to add experience and hopefully help people decide if they want this car or not! I also want to say that be careful with wiring. Some people try to install remote starts, aftermarket alarms and stereos and it fucks up the car. I had a few people come to my dealership (Nissan) with those issues and it took the dealership (who probably aren't the SMARTEST people) a while to fix them, and presumably alot of money. I suggest people always do your Googles and also read the forums at the370z.com and read up and learn about the car! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -The fuel gauge is interesting... I feel like some of these issues could be year specific as well. I personally know mine works because I have taken it to a "10 mile range" before. I also make it a habit to always fill up at 1/4th tank minimum. It's something everyone should do. You never know what's going to happen. -I agree with the oil temps. My car normally sits around 180-220 because I live in Texas and it's extremely hot here. I prefer for it to be around 180-200 but I guess you can't always have it your way. My thoughts are as long as you are under 225ish you are perfectly fine. The older Z's don't have a factory oil cooler, and those definitely help. So don't get an old one if this is a concern. I have a '16 with an oil cooler and it still reaches those temps, however it's extremely hot here and I usually do a few pulls or races as well. I personally haven't had any issues with this car yet and I'm praying and hoping I don't. I only have a 31k miles 2016 370z. My only issue so far has been the oil temps even with the cooler & just their terrible seatbelts. If you have a newer Z I would suggest getting your seatbelts fixed or completely replaced because it's free and they always have issues. It's just a common Nisfiniti issue. I also would like to say that the locks and the windows in these cars will always have minor issues. It is always very easy to fix. but if you know Nissan/Infiniti you know that they have had issues with these two components in their cars for EVER. The windows will sometimes just keep glitching up/down or they just won't want to roll up or down. Sometimes, your locks won't properly unlock or lock as well. these are very cheap and easy fixes. I suggest reading the forums. This car is relatively low maintenance in my opinion. As long as you get one that's around 2015 or newer I think you will be completely fine with this car. Just don't treat it like a POS and you'll be fine!
