That little bed is not ideal for your raspberries. By next season, you're going to be hating life. They spread and overtake everything. Just make sure you prune them on an absolute regular basis. Heck.. by the end of this season, that owl will no longer be visible and your branches will be on the ground around that raised bed with potential roots that have spread into the lawn itself sprouting new bushes. They're nice to eat from, but absolute hell to maintain. I know many people that have dug up all of their raspberry bushes because of how invasive they become. They cross lawns.. pop up in driveway cracks if planted within 15 feet.. just an absolute menace.

Not sure I get your point. Are you saying leave the past because you know that’s just the way a functioning ecosystem works? If so, then, no. My goal is to provide the healthiest nontoxic food for my family and deal with pests in the least toxic way, so as not to harm the soil or that ecosystem. If anyone decides to grow their own food, just by nature of disturbing the already existing soil and microbes and everything that’s going on by digging holes, adding compost and adding plants that weren’t there… That’s disturbing the ecosystem butthat’s the way it is

Vermiculite is used for water retention in the soil. Why does it stop moss? That's likely not moss anyways. Why does cinnimon work?That looks more like an algae to me. Lychan commonly grows in wet situations. It's a symbiotic relationship between an algae and fungi.
@CottageontheCorner
@CottageontheCorner 2 ай бұрын
In some cases, there are definitely symbiotic relationships, but when you have plant starts that are young new plants or especially plant seedlings that have just sprouted and you get any of the above on the surface of the soil, whether it’s algae, moss, mold, etc., that negatively affects a very young early plant. Now I, take that moss or algae or whatever that is in the video and I do sprinkle it throughout my soil, but I don’t want it all around the base of that plant. Vermiculite can’t hold water and the purpose. It serves to hold water so that the soil isn’t holding it and growing Things we discussed. Cinnamon happens to just be a natural inhibitor of certain things growing. I’m not quite sure why to be honest, but just like vinegar with salt kills weeds, different plants have reactions to different substances. I wish I knew all the things, but my grandfather used to work for the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and he taught me some of this stuff a very long time ago and so far it works in my area
