Being vegan is not healthy for anyone. You have to take a bunch of supplements to supplement. Plants have toxins that rob your body of nutrients. They have defense's that are toxic to the body. Spinach and kale are not superfoods. They are full of human carcinogens. Almonds are are also toxic.

I’m 5’3 102 pounds and I was never this thin till I began to dance . I began to dance and then discovered very fast that my diet had to change. It’s very physical. So of course I lost weight not just from dance but from removing ultra processed foods from my life. So I found what works for me. Whole Foods, homemade foods etc no artificial stuff. I have a crap load of energy. But I’m literally underweight according to the bmi. But I also have the tiniest bone’s ever. Strong. They don’t break easily. Only had a break once in my life minor too. I have almost 90 percent muscle mass but I’m so tiny. I would obsess over it and then bing eat because I was scared I was to low. Then if feel sick from bing eating and not want to dance. Add extra calories. I eat what I eat. I eat when I eat. I can’t force myself to consume more. But I do eat. But I don’t get dizzy spells. No symptoms of being “underweight “ and to be honest I feel lighter when I have to jump high or do a barrel roll moves like that. I’m more balanced. Having that extra weight was all in my mid section and it threw me off balance. So in reality I don’t actually think I’m underweight. It just frustrates me because people freak if I tell them what I weigh. I’m literally the girl with such a small body frame that has to have the kid X-rays at the dentist. That’s not a “normal” body frame. What you said about bmi makes me feel less stressed about it.

Everyone is different, that's why there shouldn't be a chart to dictate what's "right". There are a lot of ways to tell if you're at a healthy body weight that you can't see on the scale. I'd also recommend taking additional precautions to check that you're getting enough. Have blood tests done to check vitamin levels, make sure your vitals are stable/at healthy levels, and allow yourself to have freedom with food.
@jackeygibney893
@jackeygibney893 Жыл бұрын
@@TheWholeDancer Exactly. However freedom with food is not always an option with food sensitivities. If it effects my performance and I feel bloated and sick it’s out. Ie. A bag of chips etc anything ultra processed and anything refined like white sugar white flour. Thankfully I am an amazing cook. I make nutritiously dense foods more so than anything. And my bloodwork is normal. Doc says I’m healthy and lean. I’m fortunate I can anything I want if I make it. This includes chocolate. I found a brand that has only 3 ingredients but my gut still hurt. So now I make ‘em from scratch and use pure maple syrup as s sweetener which I’m fine with. I’m just glad I’m not celiac. I’d die without my homemade breads etc.

I'm 14, 5'4 and weigh 155 and have so many issues with self image in ballet. Our teach just talked to us about how lots of dancers couldnt get picked for roles due to them not being able to fit into costumes and for them not looking presentable enough for the audience. Since that talk i havent felt the same about myself and honestly contemplated quitting ballet over such a trivial statement. Ballet is so toxic for what i just wanna be happy 😕❤️😭

Hi Morgan, thank you for your patience in awaiting my reply. I'm so sorry your teacher gave you that talk. It's really inappropriate and unhelpful. Your goal in ballet should be to be healthy, happy, and to enjoy your dancing!! If the costume doesn't fit, it's the job of the costume department to make adjustments so the dancer is comfortable. Tell your teacher that's what I said ;)

If I've been counting calories for a long time, how would I go about getting the numbers out of my head. I don't know how to stop...

Hi Ananya! Thank you for your patience awaiting my reply. It can be really hard to get those numbers out of your head but I know that it's possible. A mantra every time you're tempted to count might help. Maybe say to yourself, "the numbers don't matter, this food is providing energy and nourishment for my body." You have to sort of drown out the numbers with information that's actually supportive.

Hi Angelica, some studios frown upon it but if she is in need of more serious training or desires more serious training than you should absolutely seek out more ballet elsewhere. When I transitioned from a recreational studio to a pre-professional school I did both for the first year then I stopped going to the recreational school altogether. It eased the transition.

It has been my dream since I was little to be a professional ballerina. I’ve always been drawn to it and at 18 I’ve recently started ballet a little over a month ago. I had the opportunity to do it when i was little but I quit before I even started because I was scared (that was a common theme in my life, until recently). Is there any hope at all of me becoming professional? I have read a lot of things that have absolutely crushed me!! I am trying to stretch 20 minutes a day, I already eat very healthy (high protein, lots of greens), and I am extremely determined and I am researching how full on a professional career is. I truly feel like ballet is what I am meant to be doing, and I haven’t felt like this a lot in my life.

Hi Danielle! Sorry I missed your comment, how have things been going for you over the last year?! To start at 18 and make it to pro it would be very hard but I'm an optimist and I believe people can defy the odds. Especially if you have good training available and can train 6 days a week and you have some natural facility for ballet, there's certainly a chance. Leave an update when you can. XO

Hey Jess :-) @ the body comparison question, I'm not sure if this counts but... I recently saw a thin girl who was quite flat chested make some celebratory posts about accepting her body and feeling like it too is cute and sexy. I grew up in public school with a lot of shame for being thin, and even at my ballet school was shamed. I feel like it's talked about so much less, but it was a real complex I had for years. Although I wasn't directly comparing our bodies--because we're actually very different as everyone is unique--her celebrating what society often deems as "unwomanly" or "not a real woman" and saying it was something good, made me really happy. Because I didn't for one second think "she's unwomanly", so then why should I accept that narrative for myself?
@TheWholeDancer
@TheWholeDancer 3 жыл бұрын
O hey, Jeanette!! I love this sentiment. And actually reading your comment made me think that if you compare your body to someone else's and it allows you to see the beauty in your differences, THAT could in fact be a positive outcome of body comparison. Or in this case, you were inspired by someone with a similar shape celebrating it (if I read that right). And that IS beautiful. I'm going to share this AHA on IG stories now haha

The first time I watched the video in question, I didn't really think much of it because I was a little girl and I had no experience with eating disorders, negative thoughts on food and body image, or ANYTHING of that sort. I just ate whatever I felt like eating, if it's a bar of chocolate, I'll eat just that. But I was amazed at how she was so thin and 'pretty' and thought maybe if I ate healthier I'd look like that *red flag*. I never really saw the vid as an issue until I developed an unhealthy habit of tracking calories and hating my body. But since I forgot about the video, I only realized how harmful it is when I stumbled across another video criticizing the dangers of obsessive calorie counting or restricting calories mentioning this 'counting calories with a ballerina' video from Munchies. Anyway I went back and watched the video again with more knowledge in my mind than the first time because I was reading up a lot about nutrition, and I was SHOCKED at what she was doing because who the heck eats corndogs for breakfast...! It's not a great way to fuel the body for the day of rehearsals, probably the last thing you want to do... Thank you for talking about this topic, I'm sure a lot of dancers and ballet students like me needed these kinds of videos!

Calorie counting can so easily get to a negative place. It's a strategy I wouldn't recommend for most people For SOME it may be OK but it's a fine line. Food quality is also so important and dancers, as athletes, really need to stay aware of that. I would argue all people need to stay aware of that but especially highly active, physical people.
