I recently started watching snooker after remembering that I enjoyed watching it as a young boy. I became curious about its history so did a search and this video came up. It's wonderful.

Taylor would have been there, errm, all night if the miss rule was about, especially on that yellow he was snookered on. That brown to pink was phenomenal. The safety was decent, whereas the rest of the frame while in with a chance was very poor quality.

If only Alex had of conducted himself a little better he'd have definitely won at least 2 more world championships but winning 2 is still a great feat rip the peoples champ you was 100% entertaining ❤

I’m here after just struggling through watching Wilson v Jones final in 2024. That hardly feels like progress after dipping into this …

Agreed. They'd have you believe the standard is better now. Absolute nonsense. More depth, perhaps but undoubtedly a lower standard of top 8/16 than the late 90s

I had this very thing happen to me playing a game of eight ball. My ball fell long after I shot and just before my opponent was just about to strike the cue ball !

How many other sports had the 1948 World Champion played the 2022 World Champion in a competitive match?
@Frank-u6d7 ай бұрын
Miss, failure to contact an object ball with the cue ball. Result, successful snooker and ball in hand to other player. ONE chance ONE fail One ball in hand. Would stop the intentional miss.

Snooker has come a long way, been playing since the mid sixties, still playing, love it immensely, known all the characters since Joe Davis, the 70's were the starting post for this DERBY, thank you Alex, Cliff, Steve, Stephen, Kirk, Ronnie and the rest.

Ultimately, _IN EVERY SPORT,_ there's going to be a time at some point where it comes down to the interpretation of the rules by the ref. And that's when they get bribed / you check bank balances

Hendry was having a shocker by his standards in 1999 until he got to the crucible when he entered GOD mode.
@Asshole883 ай бұрын
He talks about it in his books. He ended up calling Frank Callen for help and explained how he got back to his best by hooking up with the coach who was with him through his best years. If only Frank didn't retire, I think Hendry would have won so much more if he didn't. He was his best when with him.

The story of this final was John Higgin's brilliant safety play, getting in, breaking down before snookers required and Ronnie clearing up.
@FUNKINETIK8 ай бұрын
Shame Jimmy White never won a World Championship, he looked likely to clear up on the last frame against Hendry. Going for a straight forward black, the moment he is cueing someone in the audience @10:12 coughs . . . did that put him off?? To cough or make any noise at that precise moment in time seems to me intentional. Anyone else have thoughts on this? ?
@alanchamberlain99028 ай бұрын
Snooker was so different back then very British and still popular. John Parrot looking very young and also Ronnie/Higgins.
@Butterfly079498 ай бұрын
Steve Davis's closing line should have been "yeah it was in black and white." This statement would have tied the beginning of the first video with the second as snooker was first filmed in black and white!

A black ball win by Williams is hardly a great win that's luck. Just like Taylor's win against Davis in the worlds.
