Everyone says this is the saddest moment. All I could say the first time I watched it, was finally. Clark and Lana were obviously not the right fit for one another. But their attachment issues and condescendance wouldn't let them leave one another. I pointed it out throughout the series, their lack of emotional maturity. Lana is the individual in their circle that had sex with the largest number of people. Think about it. Clark, Jason, Bizarro, Lex. Going to the coffee shop every day as she did, she probably walked by and greeted at least 2 former lovers. I'm not slut-shaming, but it took Clark too damn long to realize Lana is not his destiny.
