Do you have to run the vacuum pump continuously or are you able to isolate the vacuum with a valve after you have reached the required clamping vacuum. I note the vacuum pump issues some oil vapor under load.

Looking good and the cabinet seems to be strong. Apart from cabinets in plywood to melamine. Can you dado the bottom and shelves into the side panels? Wouldn't glue add to the strength? Can the backs be grooved with 1/4" backs, rather than full-thickness melamine. This back adds quite a bit to the cost of the cabinet.
@geoffsjoinery49905 күн бұрын
The answer to all your questions is yes. What I have shown here is how we make "basic" quick melamine cabinets generally fitting in kitchens, laundries, entertainment units etc follow AUS/NZ standards. 1/4" backs method were used here many years ago and saves a little money, having something like a 4" cleat top and bottom then the back. Some commercial manufacturers including where I work machine everything by CNC and they router mortice and tennon joints into the sides, back and bottom components so it makes it easy to assemble and stronger. Just outlining that the method shown here is a basic easy DIY construction and how to assemble for the average people out there wanting to have a go. Thanks for watching and good luck with your project. 😎👍

Ive never used a VB before. How do the beds hold the work piece down once the parts are cut? Wouldnt the vacuum generation be lost once the part is cut down to the bed and the suction becomes weaker as the ports become exposed ? .. do you have to leave an "onion skin" when using a bed if cutting thru material?
@geoffsjoinery49906 күн бұрын
@@nwmi493 you seem to be referring to a CNC expectation, this set up is preferable for DIY bench work. If intending for a CNC bed, that may need a stronger vac pump as he suction needs to pull through a sacrificial base board usually out of MDF. Having said that, with that method when cutting out your parts they will still stay down but an onion skin also works especially for small fine parts. Thanks for watching. 👍

Ime using 16mm MDF , when I move the biscuit joiner a couple of mm either side of the centre , I to provide a little more wiggle room, I find that these widening cuts are making the biscuit slot to loose/ wide for some reason..ie the biscuit is loose, Anyways you only have to slightly widen one joint side of the biscuit slots yeah ? Cheers m8.
@geoffsjoinery499010 күн бұрын
I always widen both sides just to be safe, in regards to your biscuits being a little loose, that's still okay as when you fill the joint up with PVC glue it should take up the slack and once hardened should be fine. Good luck with your project and thanks for watching.👍
