I live on Mullins and have found some pretty good stuff in Little Pee Dee. Viz is usually about one foot but Monday water was low and I had a good five foot of viz.....Brian Xavier

I'll have to investigate about the farm as I'm not familiar with it. The Stone House was on a hill about 60-70 feet above the river that flowed thru now (Saluda river). It was not prone to flooding.

So dark and murky down there. How much of the original structure is still there? It’s tough to see much in the video; is anything still intact? Do you have any other dive videos of the Girls Camp or the bridge? Would be very interesting to send down a submersible to research it all.

Hello, I am the kid in the blue shirt in the start of this video. My grandmother Debbie Fletcher is the one who took us on this Awesome trip and has since passed away. We had a great time swimming in the freezing water, dropping m&ms on the bubble so the divers could eat them and enjoying every one on the boat. the lodge is very very special to me and kept secret so divers don't break it, no clue if bill is still diving here but as far as I know Hes free to and that's fine by me, I have no say as to who can or can not dive. Thank you Bill for the dive we got to come on. I love Jocassee

Thank you for sharing. Your Grandmother Debbie was a good friend and we miss her very much. Bill will probably do another dive on the Lodge in Debbie's memory. The Lodge is so deep that only a select few have the proper training to dive it. Bill pretty much has say in who dives it and he also keeps the location secret. I'm sure everyone who does dive it understands how special it is to your Family.

Why didn't they move the cemetery and the bodies before they flooded it?
@SouthCarolinaScubaDiving
@SouthCarolinaScubaDiving Жыл бұрын
The Families were given the option to have them moved. It was the 1920's, a different time and way of thinking. Most Families opted to leave their loved ones in their final resting place. In some cases they put a concrete slab over the grave to prevent washout of the grave. Other graves had no living next of kin and they were left as is. There is actually a book made from the compiled records of the Lake builders listing all the graves and their locations and if they were moved or left and the reason if left. Very interesting history!

I have not found any old vehicles. I imagine if you get further up into the Lake , as in the Saluda River, at some of the more rural boat launch ramps you might find some dumped vehicles submerged in the water. I just don't make it up that far.

I lived on Lake Murray for several years and I worked for "that" power company at their Nuclear Plant. When I saw the title, I was sure the story would be about the WWII bombers that were under the lake. I had heard a little about the towns and graveyards under the lake but this was much better presentation than the other things I saw when I lived there. I visited Columbia over the summer but I did NOT get out to see Lake Murray. I spent many summer evenings out near the dam after dark just floating in my boat watching car traffic on the dam and aircraft going in to CAE. I used to pull my boat for the winter about now as even the fall afternoons with the leaves turning was absolutely gorgeous. But it was easy to find a nice sailing afternoon on the lake even into December.

Just came across your videos, so enthralled. My dad built in hallmark shores (Porth Point i believe called now) I believe around 1969, I was around 8-9. Have 7 yr older brother became marine biologist. At 14 parents moved to IN. I was sad! Once you’re on other lakes over country you realize why they called it Gods Country. I recall as kid ppl saying why would you move out to that graveyard? I’d be like what? As a kid I think I had best childhood ever on that lake. Not been able to come back to see in 40 yrs. I know many others have moved away also and would love to see their old areas. Our old rd was later named Mallard Point. Believe address 107. Reddish brick tucked back in cove. Back then a rock damn dirt road lead out to Hendrix’s home turn right to Porths home. My bestie west end circle lisa micols. Love to see that land area and also what did lie below all over that area. Much fun learned to ski and bro barefoot. Thx and appreciate your videos and effort.

There are three boats scuttled in the Goat Island cove. The largest is a cabin cruiser. Actually several divers put a buoy on the wreck but some idiot tied off to it and pulled it up. It is directly in the center of the cove in 60 feet of water. Use a side scan and it is easy to find. It is a great dive, but best in the winter. I lost a nice pocket dive light in side the cabin there....finders keepers.

Was that a child or a fake? I know there's a cemetery under Murray, and I see the angel statue, do you ever report findings to the police?
@SouthCarolinaScubaDiving
@SouthCarolinaScubaDiving 2 жыл бұрын
It's completely fake. It's a small halloween decoration skeleton that was sunk by divers. It sits on a small bench and placed along a scuba "trail" which is a trail of things to see on the bottom as you Scuba Dive. I did find a real gun once that I reported to Police and they had one of their divers recover it and take it as evidence.

@@SouthCarolinaScubaDiving thanks. Im good down and about 60 to 70 ft but I've had panic attacks on land, and it's not fun having one underwater. Luckily I have a lot of self control but still. I need to find a shallower places to dive under 70ft around here. I'm off Highway 11. I ran a scuba diving Park and camping park on Lake Travis for the last 7 years. I miss living on the lake and being able to just go down daily and blow bubbles laying on a platform next to my favorite 5 ft catfish, laying next to me. We fed the perch there so many hot dogs and vienna sausages that we started calling them perchana. Lol. had to quit feeding them for a while because they were drawing blood on our ears. Enjoyed your video. Thanks. Have you ever done the hydraulic plant up there, is it on lake toxaway? Any suggestions for a little bit shallower dive are welcomed. I rarely have a panic attack anymore but I'm just super careful. Dive safe. Man I miss doing all those air fills, and the camaraderie of the divers daily. Divers are just great people in general.

Have you ever considered running underwater metal detectors in the "yard" around the house? I'd be very interested to see what was left around the property before it was flooded.
@SouthCarolinaScubaDiving
@SouthCarolinaScubaDiving 2 жыл бұрын
We've wanted to do this but there is a couple factors to consider. The bottom is a thick layer of silt. Once you start digging your visibility will quickly goto zero. So you would likely only get a short time to search before having to leave the area. The other issue is the house sits on top of a hill. All sides slope down to beyond recreational limits. So you would have to make it a tech/decompression dive if you explored away from the house. But we will give it a try and post a video!

@@SouthCarolinaScubaDiving So this building is on top of a hill? Wow, how much higher is it compared to the drop down ?
@SouthCarolinaScubaDiving
@SouthCarolinaScubaDiving Жыл бұрын
@@bzneeez It is on top of a hill. the hill rises to 125' deep which is the base of the stone house. It's a 12 foot by 12 foot building that is technically 2 stories. The attic made up the 2nd story. The highest point of the house is around 115' deep, so it rises about 10' in height. The roof, windows, doors, and anything inside was removed before the lake was flooded in 1929.
