A brilliantly edited record of an amazing event. This shows an appreciation of modern history and the way technology has evolved. The problem is monetarisation once life has become convenient. This has destroyed invention rather than innovation .I mean we just rework older ideas... not a lot that’s new. Keep up the good work from Hong Kong.

It was very busy on saturday and after a while, I just went to the carving building and sat down and BS'd with everyone there to avoid the craziness, lol. It was alot of fun tho and there was alot of new stuff there this year as usual. I also may or may not have cleaned out all of the goodies from the swap meet guy too. :P

I thought the way that you used the 4 jaw to hold it was pretty clever. You would definitely need a carefully designed fixture to hold it.
@ChirpysTinkeringsАй бұрын
Yea, it gave me some trouble because of trying to hold it. The patterns/parts are all tapered in all directions, so it doesnt want to be held in a milling vise, and when turned upside down, the top of where the wing nut/bolt go through stick down and get in the way, and the other arm sticks down also, so the 4 jaw was the only option I really had tbh. If I were making more than one of them, it would be easier to make a fixture to hold it, but as I was only doing one, it was easier to hold it the way I did in the 4 jaw. Thanks for stopping in and watching!

commercial product, a friend used to buy up large barrels of the stuff from foundries that were shutting down and sell it out to the home foundry guys, so I had gotten some from him. I know paul from paul's garage just got some not too long ago, so he might be one to ask where to get it from.

Could the rougher surface finish be the new sand ?
@ChirpysTinkerings4 ай бұрын
nah, it's mostly due to gating, the metal goes flying into the mold after going through the tapered sprue, which the head pressure plus the choke point there tends to act almost like a garden hose spray nozzle, after that, it's wide open and can flow into the mold pretty quickly, so as the metal hits the damp sand, the metal flows in faster than the sand can vent that moisture and it causes the metal to lift off of the sand and chill, which creates a rough texture. As the sand is choked at the part rather than wide open, the metal comes down the sprue and through the gating, then has to flow up into that choke point, which also slows the metal down considerably before it gets to that point, then the choke point lets it gently flow into the mold, and lets it have the time needed to let everything vent how it needs to. The sand has the same moisture level and everything on both gating styles, so only thing different between the two as the gating to show the difference.

lol, well, the lazy part, I can honestly say that Ive got that covered, but due to allergies to wood dust, power tools are a bit of a no-no for me most of the time, so hand planes, I can work faster, longer, and get more done while being more precise using them than with power tools usually.

@ChirpysTinkerings4 ай бұрын
@@quirty864 Yea, kinda, it was shot holes all throughout it when I got it, and it had been sitting out for quite a while, so I figured it was safe to cut it up. I welded the holes in that part up as much as I could expecting to use it as a crucible for casting aluminum, but it was just a bit too large to fit into the furnace after I rebuilt it, lol. After I got into blacksmithing, I kept using the dished bottom as a form to make ladles and such, so I just keep cutting the rings off of it to use for other stuff and keep the bottom to use for the smithing stuff.
