That was awesome. Thanks for sharing your video. I am an ex-miner. And ran locomotives on the surface. The training was fun we had to run a fully loaded loco down a hill on GREASED rails lock up the wheels in to a full uncontrolled decent (well over double the normal running speed) then regain control and bring it to a halt before you hit the stop buffers at the end of the line. Such fun but scary the hill was also double the maximum grade the loco was rated for to get a total worst case scenario.. cheers

yea, I can say that I wouldnt want to have to try to do that test, lol. It had rained the night before and a few days before, so everything was soaking wet up there, so when we put the passenger car on it, it was really interesting to keep it from slipping the wheels, but just keep the throttle at the right speed and it'll grip easily enough, lol.

I hope they add more stretch of track to the property.
@ChirpysTinkerings Жыл бұрын
Yea, I do too. They were planning on it, but trying to acquire the property behind the track so they can extend it a bit more, but right now, they're mostly limited by that. They were going to add a few switches off and have some track going down to and through the box cars so they can be used as engine houses for 58 and the others.

why the counterweight is used on steam engine wheel
@ChirpysTinkerings2 жыл бұрын
They're usually cast in to the wheels to help balance out the weight of the connecting rods and such from when it's running and whipping everything around.

@@AbdulRehman-cp7tu could also be due to where the frames for the locomotive are located. K 37s are a rather famous example of outerframe locomotives. In this case it is to actually help with road adhesion. With what the train was expected to move There was all good chance that whenever it started out or tried to get moving it would have massive amounts wheel slip and thus not be able to start the train effectively.
