Really a GP38-2 is unable to pull just five loaded cars and a copy of itself up a hill? How weak and pathetic! A yard switcher SW1500 can do better than this! There must’ve been some underlying issue with the running locomotive 2235 as well because no way no how a normally running GP38-2 can’t handle just FIVE loaded hoppers and a deadhead locomotive.

My special needs son really likes cabooses like that one he thinks that the railroads should have kept the caboose in service on the end of freight trains by just installing the flashing rear end device onto the caboose instead of replacing it.
@ICE63655 ай бұрын
I like cabooses as well, and I wish they were more common. The flashing light isn't as iconic! Nowadays, cabooses are most commonly seen on trains that need to move backwards for long distances so the conductor has a place to stand (this is why cabooses can be referred to as "shoving platforms").

I know the states is a massive place but do they not have a rail inspection trains that can run these lines at least once a year to check them for irregularities. The light reflection off them shows some janky railway lines. In the UK we have one that runs all lines at speed if need be. checking the lines for problems. You know in the neighbourhood as it has a massive blue light shining off the top of it. It would save a lot of time and effort from what i have seen in this video.
@ICE63656 ай бұрын
Excellent question! There are many inspection trains that run on the main lines of the larger railroads in the USA. However, it does not make financial sense for a class 3 railroad to run an inspection train. Instead, they have track crews manually inspect the rails. The tracks are in good enough shape for 15 mile per hour rail movements when the train shuttles railcars to/from this industry. The cause of the wheel slips in this case is the lack of power from the engines.
